Eagles put out estimated injury report ahead of Seahawks playoff game
Wild card round news and updates.

The Philadelphia Eagles issued their first official injury report on Wednesday in advance of their wild card game against the Seattle Seahawks. Note that today’s report is only an estimation since the team held a walk-through instead of a traditional practice.
Two players were listed as DID NOT PARTICIPATE: starting running back Miles Sanders and starting wide receiver Nelson Agholor.
Sanders watched Wednesday’s walk-through from the sideline. Based on comments from Doug Pederson and multiple media reports, the read here is that Sanders will play against the Seahawks. I’m guessing the team is trying to take it easy on him early in the week so he’ll be able to suit up. The Eagles could really use him out there.
Agholor is expected to miss this week’s game as he continues to deal with a swollen knee. The Eagles’ five wide receivers for Sunday will be Greg Ward, Robert Davis, JJ Arcega-Whiteside, Deontay Burnett, and Shelton Gibson. JJAW is notably not listed on the report after previously dealing with a foot issue.
Seven players were listed as LIMITED PARTICIPANTS: starting tight end Zach Ertz, starting right tackle Lane Johnson, starting cornerback Jalen Mills, starting cornerback Avonte Maddox, backup cornerback Sidney Jones, starting defensive tackle Fletcher Cox, and starting defensive end Derek Barnett.
There’s talk that Ertz could be a game-time decision. As of Wednesday morning, he hadn’t been medically cleared for contact. It’d be surprising if Ertz plays considering he suffered a lacerated kidney — usually a season-ending injury — in addition to a cracked rib. Maybe the Eagles are trying to make it seem like Ertz can play in the interest of gamesmanship? Or maybe actually has a chance?
Johnson returned to practice for the first time since suffering a high ankle sprain back in Week 14. It seems like there’s optimism he’ll be able to start this week, though he might be more of a game-time call. The Eagles have an interesting decision to make in regard to how they prepare for this week’s game. If they feel confident Johnson can play, they can just give Halapoulivaati Vaitai reps at first team right guard and start him there. But what happens if Big V is preparing to play right tackle and Matt Pryor is taking the right team guard reps now that Brandon Brooks is out for the year? It sounds like Vaitai will get the nod over Pryor but is that the best call?
Mills told reporters there is “no doubt” he will play against the Seahawks. With Mills returning to the lineup, the Eagles could have Maddox start opposite of him on the outside with Cre’Von LeBlanc serving as the nickel cornerback. Rasul Douglas would be on call if Mills gets re-injured.
Maddox got banged up in Week 17 but Pederson indicated he should be good to play against Seattle.
Jones is a new addition to the report this week. Injuries have obviously been an issue for Sidney in the past. Hopefully it’s not too serious. He’s played well as a backup and the Eagles might be in a spot where they need him with Mills and Maddox playing at less than 100%.
Cox should be fine for Sunday’s game; he’s been limited in practice early in the week leading up to the past few games.
Barnett should also be fine. Same deal as Cox.
Jordan Howard is absent from the report for the first time since originally injuring his shoulder back in Week 9. Good sign for him. Pederson indicated he could have a bigger role than the one snap he played against the Giants moving forward:
“Jordan, we just wanted to make sure that Jordan was ready to go. Again, we talked about the conditioning last week and things of that nature and risking anything further with him. I would expect that his workload would increase a little bit more this week as he gets more into game shape and game ready. We’ll have a plan for Jordan moving forward, and he’s going to have to play coming down the stretch here.”
Howard still figures to be behind Sanders (if healthy) and Boston Scott in the running back rotation.
We’ll learn more abut the team’s injury situation when they put out their second injury report on Thursday afternoon.

The Seahawks are expected to be without starting left tackle Duane Brown and starting linebacker Mychal Kendricks this week. Backup wide receivers Jaron Brown and Malik Turner could also be out, leaving Seattle thin behind starters DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett.
The Seahawks rested starting guard Mike Iupati, starting center Joey Hunt, and starting edge rusher Jadeveon Clowney. They should all be fine to play on Sunday.
Starting safety Quandre Diggs is expected to return this week after missing a couple games.
