    8/11/11 Update...

Osi Umenyiora is suddenly willing to "give up his demand for the Giants to redo his contract or trade him," a source tells the New York Daily News.

Umenyiora appears ready to cave. He's meeting with a specialist in Atlanta about his knee today and is tentatively expected to be cleared to return to practice Monday. The incentive package that the Giants offered earlier is still on the table and Umenyiora will likely accept that and move on. He'll likely rotate with Jason Pierre-Paul until he reaches full strength.

      Well, that was anticlimactic.

Too bad. I was hoping (as I'm sure all of us were) that Osi would go to the Raiders or some other garbage AFC team were we wouldn't have to deal with him.

          8/14/11 Update...

Osi Umenyiora (knee) will return to practice with the Giants Monday.

The Giants offered to put incentives into Umenyiora's deal, but he turned them down citing unfairness. Instead, he'll play out the season on his $3.125 million base salary. Umenyiora says his decision to return was influenced by his feelings for his teammates, coaches and the fans. Left unsaid was that all of the leverage now rests with the Giants.

            Such a shame...

Giants RE Osi Umenyiora is out 3-4 weeks after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his troublesome knee.

It wasn't a phantom knee injury, after all. Umenyiora complained of knee "soreness" after ending his holdout, and rumors he might need the joint scoped proved true. The timetable will likely keep Osi out of the Giants' opener, and perhaps more games based on his ability to recover. Jason Pierre-Paul will take over as New York's starting weak-side end. If "JPP" plays like he's capable, Umenyiora will have a tough time getting his job back.
