"...But the team still has some work to do to keep last year's group intact. Odom and LaBoy are both unrestricted free agents who will be free to sign elsewhere if the Titans don't agree to a deal with them before the start of free agency. That would leave the Titans looking to sign players from other teams to fill the gaps.

"I would love to have everybody back because I really feel like we've all come together and play really well together,'' Haynesworth said. "If you look at our games, our defensive line had a lot to do with us winning a lot of those games, getting pressure on quarterbacks and things like that. If we can get our group back, there's no reason why we can't be dominant again.''

Reinfeldt's met with Odom's and LaBoy's agents but "there's no real progress to report.''

    Thoughts?

I'd like to see the Birds address the FA market in two spotsE & WR.Odom would be a nice addition and a guy I like at WR is Bernard Berrian.I read today that Da Bears are unlikely to slap the faranchise tag on him. He's got stud written all over him but the QB situation in Chicago is a goatfuck.Odom & Berrian works for me and it allows us to go CB,Safety, and a ST's return guy in the draft.
This talk of Samuels is crazy. The guy is gonna hit the frickin motherload after what San Fran paid for Clements so him wearing midnight green is a pipedream.Cut the Freak,McDougle,& Howard, bring in Odom & Berrian and away we go.BTW Justin Smith at DE wouldn't be a bad thing either but the pricetag might be too high.
Just give me ONE before I go!

Good plan. The only point is Clement did NOT cost that much. They say he was really only about 7 mil per year since his 8th year cancelled out based on his performance and his last two years cost around $30 mil which he will never see. So he is really some 7 yrs for 49 mil. With Kearse dropping off (prorated over 2 years he brings a 4.5 mil decrease in our cap this year. Another 5 mil over that could get us Samuels. On second thought, he just isn't that good. F**K him.

Funny stuff Dutch I'm glad to see you come to that conclusion about Samuels,he's just too bad expensive.Hell,I'd like to have a Bently in my driveway but guess what,it ain't happening.
WR & DE works for me because let's face it:there is NO Wr in the draft that will make this club better in '08 with Andy's nucleur physics offense.I really like this kid Berrian because he'll spread the field and allow Curtis to move to the slot.Make that move and next year Curtis is the next Wes Welker.

Re: Another Potential FA: DE Antwan Odom, Titans

Interesting point on Clements' contract, although I believe that he got 22 mil guaranteed, which is quite a bit. The latest rumor that the Eagles might pursue Samuels kind of surprises me, as the Eagles have never been one to get into bidding wars over players.

That being said, I don't think they're going to go after a premier DE in FA. The big names are all going to be franchised. I think they are also optimistic about Abiamiri. I hope he follows a similar path to what Bunkley did after his rookie season was over. He put in a lot of time at novacare, and really elevated his game. JJ says he thinks Abiamiri can be similar to Strahan with his skill set, and that he may very well end up starting opposite Cole next year. So, a player like Odom, who's not a big name but has some upside makes sense. Do that, get a WR, which could be Berrian, or Stallworth, or maybe make a trade for Roy Williams, then load up on D backs in the draft.

Odom is a decent player and could be a great depth guy but he was a starter in Houston and he'll want to be a starter wherever he signs. Now maybe no one wants to offer him a starting job but anyone who does will have a big advantage in signing him.

I wouldn't mind Odom or LaBoy for that matter. Both are young and can get to the QB. Throw either one in our mix and our DL would be pretty damn good.

LaBoy was awesome at UH but I really don't watch many Titans games so I haven't really seen how is skills have translated to the NFL level. However, based on his skills et in college I think he could make a big impact in the Joker role. Odom I know almost nothing about.

Well if he fits in a rotation behind Cole/Abiamiri with Thomas then go for it. Otherwise forget it since I want to see Gocong in the Joker role with his speed and killer instincts.

LaBoy is a rotational guy who will get to the QB. He's just ok against the run but getting to the QB is his primary job. He's had 3.5, 6.5, 3.5 and 6 sacks in his 4 years.

IMO Dutch he would fit in just fine in a rotation especially behind Abiamiri.

Seems like LaBoy would be a perfect rotation guy to use. With Cole and Abiamiri being both able to handle the run and the pass we need another pass rusher along with Thomas for the rotation. I think you are dead on with this one Blitz.

                        re: Odom.

New info. He will give Titans first crack at signing him, even though it will be increasingly difficult should the team tag haynesworth as expected.

Not trying to throw cold water on anybody here but - It seems many are making quite a few assumptions about Abiamiri here.

All I'm saying is that based on the tiny little bit he played how can we all of a sudden decide that he is fine against the run and that all we need is another speed guy?

Not saying he can't but just sorta amazed at how much love the guy seems to be getting here.

MD, speaking for myself I am not necessarily ready to crown Abiamiri yet but he does give cause for optimism. His pre-draft scouting report says that he was one of the better all-around DE's coming out. A good strong-side DE prospect. Good against the run, but just bull-rushes mostly in passing downs. He just needs more polish and pass-rush moves. He has more size than a lot of his contemporaries (the smallest of which who are pass-rush specialists) Odom appears to be the same physically in stature to Abiamiri. Not sure about his playing style or technique. I agree though that the Eagles have an unknown quantity in Abiamiri.

TP, I understand what his pre draft summaries say, both positive and negative -- I just saying that if you read this thread it's being assumed that he is the starter and that we just need somebody to rotate in -- frankly I haven't seen enough to say that -- I'm sure the coaches know a whole lot more and in what direction they go, may tell us much more -- just not sure we have seen enough to warrant all the starter talk.

BTW- FWIW- My next door neighbor knows the kid taught him for many years at the Gilman School, sez he is bright and had a great attitude while in high school....... not that it means much now at this level.
