  • My roster prediction

First I will say there will be several players cut who will get claimed on waivers, and other will sign with new teams. This is a very deep roster. I would expect a few trades from Howie to. But as of today this is what I am thinking

QB - Wentz, McCown & Thorson - Sudfeld is most likely put on IR(can kick the can down the road 8 weeks) or traded. I don't think they are going to risk losing Thorson.

RB - Howard, Sanders, Clement & Sproles - Smallwood, Adams and Scott all get picked up by other teams. One or two of these could be dealt for conditional picks

OL - Peters, Seumolo, Kelce,Brooks,Johnson, Dillard,Big V,Heberg & Mailata. Wiz could be back after week one but really has not played well enough to take him over a potential in Heberg. Pryor stinks.

TE - Ertz, Goddert & Perkins - Ellis could wind up on the Practice squad

WR - Jeffrey, Agholor,Jackson,JJaw,Greg Ward & Michel. Big cut here is Mack Hollins yes he is a special teams player but there are others on this team now that can play both special teams and give more as a positional player. Ward could be the next slot guy next year. Michel has some real promise.

DL - Cox, Jackson,Ridgeway,Jernigan,Barnett,Curry,Graham,Hal l,Miller &Sweat - I would say there is a chance that Sweat is traded. Miller has shown a little more to me than he has.

LB - Cabana Boy, Brown,Forte,Edwards & Gerry - Kamu to IR with the possible return.

S - Jenkins, McCloud, Rudy, Cyprien & Sendjo

CB - Darby,Maddox,Douglas,Jones & Scandrick - Mills on PUP & LeBlanc to IR

Specialist - Johnson, Lavano & Elliot

That leaves one spot open, could goo to either an extra DL or OL that Howie picks up in trade or elsewhere. Could also see an linebacker.

taz - great work! Some debate items:

    1) I think Thorson is practice squad material. I know people feel like someone will pick him up but I highly doubt it. There is a relatively small % of players cut that then make another roster. Thorson would have to be added at QB of all positions to a roster and Thorson does have the option to stay with the team that drafted him on their PS rather than go for a contract elsewhere. I think he makes it to the PS.

    2) I believe they'll keep Pryor. They seem to rave about him too often.

    3) I agree - think Hollins gets cut.

They could keep Pryor but I have a feeling they won't. He really has not progressed at all this year in fact he has really regressed.

As for Thorson, I would have thought practice squad to, but he has done enough in the preseason to show he has potential. So a team like the Jets or the Colts etc could snap him up. Then what do you do? They will need a 3rd QB even if its on the Practice squad.

I think you might be right on although I wouldn't be surprised if they try and sneak Thorson to the PS and just keep 2 QBs. I agree they will either IR or trade Sudfield.

I think they will try and keep Wiz.

I also think they will try and keep Hollins somehow. I hate Scandrick and since he is only going to be a special teamer I think I'd keep Hollins and get rid of Scandrick.
You know Darren if you'd have told me 10 years ago that someday I was going to solve the world's energy problems I'd have said your crazy.... now lets drop this big ball of oil out the window.

Their 3rd QB is Sudfeld. Even though he's a FA after this season, I don't see any way a team is going to pay him more next year than we will be prepared to pay him to back-up Wentz. McCown will be gone and Howie has shown he will pay the back-up whatever is necessary to be solid at the position. I can't see them going with youth at the position to back-up Wentz.

Yeah the thing is Sudfeld probably wants an opportunity to start and until he gets to FA he won't know if he will get that. I could see them placing him on IR (designation to return)as insurance and keeping all 4 QB's. If Wentz were to go down (God forbid), Then McCown takes over and Sudfeld becomes the 2 or vice versa.

Also have to look at the Eagles took Thorson in the 5th round this year yes it was a flyer but they wanted a developmental QB for a reason.

I just can't see Thorson making the roster and I don't think that he will get scooped by anyone either. If another team wants them they will have to make room for him on their roster. I'm thinking that most teams only carry 2 QBs these days anyway. I'm just not buying that one. I think that he's safe on the PS.

As far as Pryor goes I think that he has had a very good preseason other than the penalties and most of them were false starts do to inexperience and jitters. Sometimes he just destroys people. He could start for a lot of teams IMO.

I agree on Ward. There's no way they can cut him. He's much too athletic and could most likely fill Aggies role for next year. Heck, I'll bet that he could fill in in an emergency position if McNown went down. Michel and The Knife have to battle it out for number 6. Michel is fast and you can't teach that and he's much more polished that Gibson was. The Knife just can't stay on the field but is a damned good wr. This one is a tough one. I suppose that Johnson might be in the mix too. Doug mentions him quite a bit.

I don't ever remember so many guys on the bubble that are going to be snapped up by other teams if we can't trade them. So much depth here.

I agree with Taz on all except:

                1) No way Thorson takes a roster spot IMO. He will be put on the PS, which is good for him because a few weeks ago I thought he was headed for cut city. I think we go 2 active QB's for the time being, with Ward being the emergency.

                2) I think we keep Hollins over Michel, at least for now. Michel could get called up later on. Ward makes it as he is the emergency backup also.

                3) I think Herbig gets stashed on the PS and we keep Pryor active. Herbeig is just so raw.

                4) If Daeshon Hall lights it up in the last game, it will be really tough to let him go. I think we may go one man extra here and only go with 2 active QB's to start.

I really hope that you all are right on Thorson being able to get him to the PS. But honestly I don't see the Eagles who used a 5th round pick on him just releasing him with hopes of him getting to the practice squad. Last year the Titans releases Luke Folk who they took in the 6th round and he was claimed by the Dolphins, Davis Webb was released by the Giants and choose to sign with the Jets practice squad vs. the Giants.

So if they want to keep Thorson which if they drafted him in round 5, they are going to want to keep him.

With the Eagles continuing to acquire Safeties I don't see Hall making the team. Rudy is a much better special teams player than Hall (look at his tape).

Herbeig looked good at center, with Wiz struggling at center I see Herbeig making it.

I could also see Herbeig, Pryor and Wiz all going and the Eagles picking up a backup center elsewhere.

I hear you on Thorson being a number 5 pick taz. That's why he was my surprise cut before TC. For the most part you just don't cut your top 5 draft picks. Now I could see Thorson not signing with the Birds PS and going somewhere else but I don't think that he's shown anything that would impress another team to put him on their roster. In our eyes he may be a little more valuable with 2 of our QBs going down, but 2 weeks ago we didn't know if we would even bother putting him on our PS let alone our roster.

Thorson would be silly to sign with another PS considering how much he could learn in that QB room from both the staff and the roster of QBs.

You speak with wisdom, however, today's professional athletes, especially ones so young, lack in that department.

I think Doug would leave an impression on even the youngest of QBs. Howie too.

Maybe he wouldn't sign with a PS maybe another team like the Jets who can afford to carry a 3rd developmental QB since they are going no where sign him.

Its not a matter of who buy how many players that Douglas is going to bring to the Jets from the Eagles. I put the over under at 3 and it could be more than that. All of them will get more opportunity there as their roster is no where near as deep as the Eagles roster.
