BUT HOW OFTEN DOES MCNABB EVEN GET THE CHANCE TO SEIZE IT? Ben's team ALWAYS at least gives him a chance to seize the opportunity. He is always in a close game and always has at least a chance to win. McNabb has only been given this opportunity a couple of times. Down 5 against the Rams, down 7 against the Cards and down 3 against GB. He came back against GB. He got the Eagles to midfield against the Rams and then couldn't find any open receivers (and there was PI against Freddy). He got the Eagles to midfield against the Cards, then made a couple of bad throws, one of which was quite difficult, and then a good throw to Curtis who got mugged and still probably should have caught it. So he is one for three, and one for one when the margin was 3 points or less. He has as many last drive comebacks in the playoffs in the last 7 years as Tom Brady (who fumbled in that drive).

It is NOT an apples to apples comparison. Being a great QB is not about last minute drives. That is what ass hole, unqualified announcers and sportswriters write about because they do not have the analytical capacity or the football understanding to write about anything else. It is why Derek Jeter is considered a clutch for the play against the A's where he was actually out of positition and a bad throw found it's way to him. But his team was always putting him in position to have a chance to make a great play and win it.

Brian Dawkins, Andy Reid, Jon Runyan and Tra Thomas underperform in big games. Every god damn playoff year. And McNabb takes all the heat. All of it. The defense sucked epically, Akers sucked beyond epically, and still McNabb is viewed as not being able to win.

Fans just truly cannot think rationally. I understand there is emotion, but seriously, think about the situations and don't make bad comparisons.

Did McNabb have a chance in the last game?

      Ehh... I don't care anymore.

Disclaimer: I know that the WR had to catch the ball too, but you have to get the ball there first, or it's a moot point.
Hardly a fatal flaw...I am sure there were many plays where the OL or RB or WR or TE or FB bailed Ben out....it all balances out just like the defense winning the 2005 SB despite Ben's terrible performance...it is a team game for these very reasons.

Ben didn't move around, saving the day any better than Donnie did while engineering the biggest comeback in playoff history, only to have the D give it away.

How much time did McNabb have at the end of that Cardinals game to win it?

            What defense was he playing?

            Exact situation, no?

Oh right, Ben only needed three and he got 7 for shits and giggles.

We're talking about pressure situations, and once is more pressure than the other. Go back in this thread and read my post about having to force a pass as opposed to being able to just put it in a spot where only your WR has a chance at it.

Here, I'll put it another way for you. McNabb's last come from behind, "clutch" , playoff win was vs Green Bay in the 2003 playoffs.

It took an incredible throw and catch on 4th and 26 to make that happen. If Mitchell doesn't come down with that, we lose and he is a choker.

VS ARIZONA: If Jackson makes an unbelievable catch (the ball hit him in the hands if you watch the tape) or Curtis makes a fairly average catch (the ball hit him in the hands) then maybe we go on to tie and win in OT. Does Santonio Holmes make the catch that Curtis dropped?

It is a team game. Receivers have to catch the ball, the o-line and backs have to block, and the defense has to get stops when it counts.

How many good throws did McNabb make vs Washington in week 16 only to have his receivers drop them?

You win and you lose as a team. You come from behind as a team. Having a "clutch" QB sure helps but it takes a lot more than that. To even have the opportunity, you need other guys to make plays when it matters. The 3rd and 4th and 1 vs the Giants is a perfect example.
