BUT HOW OFTEN DOES MCNABB EVEN GET THE CHANCE TO SEIZE IT? Ben's team ALWAYS at least gives him a chance to seize the opportunity. He is always in a close game and always has at least a chance to win. McNabb has only been given this opportunity a couple of times. Down 5 against the Rams, down 7 against the Cards and down 3 against GB. He came back against GB. He got the Eagles to midfield against the Rams and then couldn't find any open receivers (and there was PI against Freddy). He got the Eagles to midfield against the Cards, then made a couple of bad throws, one of which was quite difficult, and then a good throw to Curtis who got mugged and still probably should have caught it. So he is one for three, and one for one when the margin was 3 points or less. He has as many last drive comebacks in the playoffs in the last 7 years as Tom Brady (who fumbled in that drive).
It is NOT an apples to apples comparison. Being a great QB is not about last minute drives. That is what ass hole, unqualified announcers and sportswriters write about because they do not have the analytical capacity or the football understanding to write about anything else. It is why Derek Jeter is considered a clutch for the play against the A's where he was actually out of positition and a bad throw found it's way to him. But his team was always putting him in position to have a chance to make a great play and win it.
Brian Dawkins, Andy Reid, Jon Runyan and Tra Thomas underperform in big games. Every god damn playoff year. And McNabb takes all the heat. All of it. The defense sucked epically, Akers sucked beyond epically, and still McNabb is viewed as not being able to win.
Fans just truly cannot think rationally. I understand there is emotion, but seriously, think about the situations and don't make bad comparisons.
