    Eagles Fall Short In Tourney

    June 16, 2006
    By SHANE EVANS

It was a fun-filled Friday afternoon as the Philadelphia Eagles hosted the second annual NFL Staff Softball Challenge at the NovaCare Complex.
Five teams participated in this double-elimination tournament, which ran for the duration of the workday. Staff members from the Washington Redskins, Pittsburgh Steelers, Baltimore Ravens, the NFL's league office and, of course, the Eagles took the field in the round-robin style competition.

Returning for the second time as the Eagles starting shortstop, chairman/CEO Jeffrey Lurie was thrilled to have the event hosted by his organization at a world-class facility like the NovaCare complex.

The Eagles fell short of the championship after losing in a rematch with the NFL office and to the eventual-champion Baltimore Ravens, who won the tournament for the second consecutive year.

LOL. Perfectly stated! If Lurie wasn't too cheap to pay for a quality short stop maybe they'd go somewhere. Instead the cheap bastard suits up himself and takes the field just to save a few bucks. When was the last time this team had a high quality short stop? This is why the Eagles lead the NFL Softball league in cap space!

Lurie's just happening to be the SS reminds me of the sporting goods store that used to sponsor a softball team I played on up here. The owner was very generous...we had nothing but the best in equipment, uniforms etc. Just one catch...it was understood that his son, a really medicore player, would be on the team and get some PT.

Our coach tried to hide him in Right, but this was a pretty competitve league and his fielding cost us a several games over 2 seasons. We were all very sad when he moved out of the area to manage a new store his father opened up in Vermont.
