Giants head coach Pat Shurmur calls out Landon Collins

The New York Giants are still attempting to resolve the drama that surrounded the team under then head coach Ben McAdoo last season.

Bringing in a new head coach in Pat Shurmur to change the environment should help. But there’s still some leftover issues stemming from the McAdoo era.

The status of former first-round pick Ereck Flowers is a prime example of this. Flowers has been absent from the first organized team activities of the offseason. According to Pro Bowl safety Landon Collins, the left tackle’s absence is primarily due to the Giants signing veteran Nate Solder in free agency.

While that might very well be true, Shurmur is not interested in Collins’ opinion on the situation.

As for Landon Collins saying Flowers is absent because he’s upset the Giants signed LT Nate Solder, Pat Shurmur said “That’s not for Landon to talk about.”

“That’s not for Landon to talk about.” This is a rather alarming stance for Shurmur to take publicly. Even prior to his arrival, Collins had acted the part of a team leader. He’s a voice in the locker room. To call him out in such a public manner is an interesting decision.

For his part, Flowers’ tenure with the Giants could very well be coming to an end. The team attempted to trade him during last month’s draft, but nothing came to fruition on that end. By adding Solder in free agency, Flowers’ only real place along the Giants’ offensive line is right tackle. He doesn’t seem to be terribly excited about that idea.
    "Hey Giants, who's your Daddy?"
