Report: DeSean Jackson broke his ring finger but the Eagles aren’t concerned [UPDATE]

    Bullet dodged?
By Brandon Lee Gowton@BrandonGowton Updated Aug 27, 2019,

Eagles WR Desean Jackson fractured ring finger, Jackson was told it is a 3-4 [week] injury. He’s scheduled to try out a custom splint tomorrow, at this time. I’m told, he’s not sure what his comfort will be playing [with] it, will determine later if he’ll play [before] fully healed.
Well, this report doesn’t sound quite as optimistic as the one that Ian Rapoport put out. Hopefully Jackson doesn’t end up missing any playing time. The Eagles’ Week 1 game is only 12 days away.
    ORIGINAL STORY BELOW.

FIRST UPDATE: ESPN’s Josina Anderson had this to say about DeSean Jackson’s injury:

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson broke the ring finger on his left hand during today’s practice, according to a report from NFL insider Ian Rapoport. But before the panic sets in, RapSheet also noted that Jackson is “not expected to miss time and the team is not concerned.”
Hopefully Rapoport’s right about this one.
Even if Jackson isn’t expected to miss time, it still doesn’t seem ideal that a guy whose job involves catching passes is dealing with a broken finger. We’ll see if Jackson ends up struggling with drops early in the season.
Still, Jackson getting hurt in practice could’ve been a lot worse. A broken finger isn’t going to suddenly slow him down as a deep threat.
Jackson’s had a fantastic offseason with the Eagles in his first one back with the team. He’s already established a strong on-field chemistry with Carson Wentz and it’s only a matter of time before we see those two connecting for explosive plays in 2019.

SECOND UPDATE: ESPN’s Tim McManus says the Eagles are optimistic about DeSean Jackson playing in Week 1, so that’s good.
DeSean Jackson expected to see a hand specialist [on Wednesday, August 28] to be on safe side, a source said. There’s confidence in building he’ll play Week 1. The fact that the injury is on his left, non-dominant hand, is helpful.

Guess I wouldn't be too concerned yet. Generally, a deep threat guy isn't getting 90 mph fastballs thrown at him like a slot guy or TE might get when the QB is trying to rifle it in. Jackson should be running under balls more. And, although I don't know it, my guess is receivers of any type play with beat up fingers and hands most of the time.
Wait until next year is a terrible philosophy
    Hope is not a strategy

Jackson suffered a fractured ring finger during Philadelphia Eagles practice on Tuesday. NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport said at the time that Jackson was not expected to miss any time due to the injury.

ESPN’s Josina Anderson says Jackson was told the injury is typically 3-4 weeks. Jackson reportedly will try a custom splint and decide whether he can return before that timetable.

Yep, those reports say Jackson has a ring finger issue and we have no idea of how bad or how long it will take or whether it will bother him but for now we think he will miss time

I'm going to go there. I don't like the DJax signing. Guy is made of glass. I get that he doesn't miss a lot of games but there is always something not right with the guy. Think we are going to wish we didn't spend the money on the guy.
You know Darren if you'd have told me 10 years ago that someday I was going to solve the world's energy problems I'd have said your crazy.... now lets drop this big ball of oil out the window.

Eagles fans chant “F*** Chip Kelly” during a DeSean Jackson appearance

Another “Welcome home” moment for DJacc.

            By Brandon Lee Gowton@BrandonGowton Aug 28, 2019, 4:14pm EDT

DeSean Jackson has received a number of warm Philadelphia welcomes since returning to the Eagles earlier this year.

There was the time Jackson showed up to a Sixers pregame ceremony in March and fans went nuts.

There was the time Jackson ran out of the Lincoln Financial Field tunnel prior to the Eagles’ only public training camp practice and fans gave him the loudest ovation of the evening.

Heck, Jackson even drew loud cheers in last week’s preseason game despite the fact that Cody Kessler’s throw for the wide receiver was incomplete.

The latest “welcome home” moment for Jackson occurred during 97.5 The Fanatic’s Fan Fest this past weekend. Anthony Gargano’s comments about Jackson being back and Chip Kelly being long gone chanted some loud “F*** Chip Kelly!” chants.

You just might recall that Kelly had a big role in Jackson being unceremoniously released in March 2014 following a career season by the speedy pass catcher.

Jackson made the Eagles regret that decision every time he played against his former team by torching them.

Jackson also spoke about his disdain for Kelly, calling the former Eagles head coach a “big time weirdo.” Immediately following the Eagles’ Super Bowl win, Jackson posted a message that read “Chipmunk kelly a bum” on his Instagram story.

But Kelly’s very much in the Eagles’ past now. He’s busy trying to coach the UCLA Bruins to a better record than their 3-9 finish last season.

Jackson, meanwhile, is back in Philly as he tries to help the Eagles compete for their second Super Bowl title in three seasons.

The next big “welcome home” moment for Jackson will be when he runs out of the tunnel at the Linc in Week 1, assuming his finger injury doesn’t cause him to miss time.

Of course, the best cheers for Jackson will come after he torches Washington’s defense and Carson Wentz hits him for a 75-yard touchdown on the Eagles’ first play of the season.
