  • Brookover w/ Jody Mac (950 WPEN)

Bob Brookover was on with Jody an hour after Heckert...

Covered baseball for 15 years, likes Phillies...

    1. Same happiness scale from 1-10 question? Brookover said probably a 5 or 6 and that Curtis signing takes most of the sting out of losing Stall.

    2. Jody asked why Stall did not re-sign here? Brookover said Stall was dismayed the Eagles would not offer a LT deal, stuck on the one year deal and thus thought he would never be able to work out a LT deal with the Eagles. That led him to looking back at NE (who NO was going to trade Stall to last year, but Eagles had Simy and NO needed a LB) and signed there for in essence a one year deal +.

    3. Jody followed up and asked what reasons propelled Stall to leave? Brookover said it was a choice between NE and Eagles and came down to Stall's frustration with the Eagles...Brookover did say if given the chance he himself would have chosen NE too since they have a better track record and recruit FA very well.

    4. Jody asked if Curtis is a good fit here? Brookover thinks Curtis is a fine and referenced the chance Curtis got to start in STL and how well he performed. He said the fans need to give him a chance and that he should replace Stall fine.

    5. Jody asked his thoughts about the Eagles re-signing Buck? Brookover likes Buck and said the only issue is his health. He said he did very well last year and had more yards from scrimmage than Jacobs in NY and many fans believe Jacobs is some kind of stud for whatever reason.

    6. Jody followed up about the "big back" issue and how Buck is not good at 3rd and 1 etc.? Brookover said the Eagles need to run more in those situations before they get a "big back" and does not really believe that size has much to do with anything or that the Eagles struggled in those situations in the redzone last year...said in the NO game Westy failed not because he was not a "big back", but because Thomas missed a block and Westy got nailed from the side...so it was execution, not size.

    7. Jody asked if he thought Eagles would do anything more in FA especially with LB? Brookover thinks they are basically done in FA and obviously do not like the LB out there or they would have pounced on one by now. He talked to JJ at the combine and asked him why the defense has not been as dominant as it was 2+ years ago. JJ said they need the young guys to step up especially Bunkley and just need better execution, thinks the personnel is talented enough to be dominant.

    8. Jody asked if he thought Eagles would go DE in draft? Brookover does not believe they will go DE, thinks they have 4 good ones and thinks they will go Safety or LB in the first 3 picks.

    9. Jody asked who would Brookover choose between Considine and Mikell? Brookover said Considine because he is a better pass coverage guy...he did say however if they take a Safety high that pick could come in and start right away...Safety is one of those positions young guys usually can pick up quickly.

    10. Jody asked what he thought of Bloom and can he be returning kicks next year? Brookover said he had no idea about Bloom and would have to see him do it before he would know if he could. He said Lewis might be worried about his job and that Johnson will compete with Bloom, but the Eagles will not dress 5 or 6 WR and the competition will be fierce. He said ST is very important for depth WR and stated Gaffney got cut mostly due to not playing ST well last year

    11. Jody asked about his story regarding Stall's inclusion in the NFL substance abuse program? Brookover stated again the Eagles were not the source and it would not make any sense for them to be since they were trying to sign him and if it got back they leaked it Stall would never speak to them again...Jody mentioned it might be perceived as advantegous for the Eagles since it would depress offers to Stall, but Brookover said that theory holds no water since any team interested in Stall are told right away by the league and so everyone already knew...
