We're looking for people that are fundamentally different,” vice president of player personnel Andy Weidl said Saturday night. “The love and passion for football, it's non-negotiable. They're caring, their character, they do the right thing persistently, and they have a relentless playing style that you can see on tape. The motor, it burns hot. You see them finishing plays. They have a team-first mentality. They're selfless individuals.

Great fit for the Birds who takes on the role of Celek as a good blocker and reliable pass catcher.
Just give me ONE before I go!

Hope the kid is smart, if he understands the play book quickly and can even just shield block this offense has some potential. If he is a willing participant in the run game, he will make us forget Burton and will make Celek's release palatable.

Hope we are regularly killing people. He and Wentz share an agent and are friends. Hopefully this translates into a quick transition. Dude has some skills.

This move and this pick are excellent examples of how Roseman has grown from a simple wanna-be to one of the best GMs in the league. There were three top TEs in this draft before a significant drop off in talent. The first two, Hurst and Gesicki were off the board. Yesterday Witten drops a bomb on Dallas with an unexpected retirement announcement meaning Dallas has to replace him on the fly. Meanwhile Gronk has been back and forth with his own retirement plans so NE is also likely to be eyeing Goedert as their second round pick. Howie anticipated this and pulled the trigger to move up and grab this kid right in front of both teams! And in the process, not only makes the Eagles stronger, but denies two rivals of the chance to get better. Great job in evaluating a target and executing the moves to secure them!

Found this analysis of him at Walter Football where they had him ranked as the #2 TE prospect. Some issues to be concerned with for sure, but let’s see what happens when he takes on a secondary role and has a staff to help correct the route running and drop issues.

                    image: http://walterfootball.com/college/So...State_logo.gif

Dallas Goedert, TE, South Dakota State
                    Height: 6-4. Weight: 260. Arm: 33.88. Hand: 10.13.
                    Projected 40 Time: 4.73.
                    Projected Round (201: 2-4.
4/24/18: Goedert was a dangerous receiving threat over the past two seasons for South Dakota State. The senior amassed 72 receptions for 1,111 yards and seven touchdowns in 2017. He put up even better production as a junior with 92 receptions for 1,293 yards and 11 touchdowns.

For the NFL, Goedert has the ability to contribute as a receiver. While he will struggle to separate from NFL linebackers or safeties, he can use his size and high-point ability to make catches over defenders. He will be an asset in the red zone with his skills to sky high and make tremendous catches with body control and uncanny one-handed skills. Goedert is adept at finding the soft spot in zone coverage, and his size makes him tough to tackle for defensive backs. Thus, Goedert could be a quality receiving tight end in the pros, although he probably won't be elite given the lack of speed, suddenness, and an ability to separate.

Team sources said that they were grading Goedert in the fourth round and have medical concerns with him. "He's not a great route-runner and wasn't a separation guy," said a NFC director of college scouting. "He is more possessional and doesn't win with suddenness or quickness. He had lots of drops, but you counter that with some spectacular catches. They threw him a million balls, so some drops are going to happen. We just don't see him as a special mismatch weapon."

I've seen him play a few times, including against ND State, and he has always been among the best if not the best guy on the field. I think his work ethic and attitude will inflate his talent level to the point where he is a successful NFL TE.

I wonder if his old man was a Cowboy fan? I'll bet his nickname in the locker room will be Philly.

Yea I think you can find a scout to oppose or to laud any player or to find fault with particular area. Hell how many dissed Carson. They all have to have something to sell.
On a side note it sounds like Carson was pumping up Goedert while his cousin and NDSU grad this year Conner Wentz went undrafted and signed on with SF as an UDFA.

I read that his dad was, in fact, a Cowboys fan, but he said that while growing up, other family members turned him into a Packers fan.

He also mentioned the day after being drafted that he heard about a fan who started a Go-Fund-Me page to raise money to pay for him to change his name to Philly.
