Eagles bring 2017 corner back, waive Destiny Vaeao, and make practice squad changes
    22
The Eagles made some roster move on Tuesday evening.
    By Brandon Lee Gowton@BrandonGowton Oct 16, 2018, 6:18pm EDT

The Philadelphia Eagles officially announced some roster moves on Tuesday evening.

First, the team signed free agent cornerback Dexter McDougle. The Eagles originally traded Terrence Brooks to the Jets in exchange for McDougle prior to the final preseason game last summer. McDougle served as a backup slot corner and special teams contributor prior to being cut in order to make room for Dannell Ellerbe in November.

The Eagles are in need of depth at nickel cornerback with Sidney Jones suffering a hamstring injury that Doug Pederson described as “week-to-week.” McDougle’s familiarity with the Eagles’ defensive scheme could allow him to fill in there, which could then let Avonte Maddox stay back at safety. (Read more about McDougle here.)

In order to make room for McDougle, the Eagles waived/injured defensive tackle Destiny Vaeao. The 2016 undrafted free agent signing has largely been ineffective for Philly, but now the Eagles are even thinner on the interior defensive line. Fletcher Cox, Haloti Ngata, and Trevon Hester are the only three defensive tackles on the 53-man roster and Ngata has missed the last two games due to injury. Of course, Philadelphia can also use Michael Bennett and Brandon Graham to play inside.

In order to add more DT depth, the Eagles signed Winston Craig to the practice squad. Craig has bounced on and off the team’s roster since originally signing as an undrafted free agent in 2017. Linebacker Kyle Wilson was waived to make room for Craig. The Eagles didn’t need Wilson after adding linebacker B.J. Bello to the scout team earlier on Tuesday.

Redskins release veteran DT Ziggy Hood

The Washington Redskins have released veteran defensive tackle Ziggy Hood according to the Twitter account of agent Andy Ross.

Hood had been a starter in Washington the past two seasons but has played only 49 snaps thus far in 2018. A first-round pick out of the University of Missouri by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2009, Hood spent five years in Pittsburgh and a year in Jacksonville before signing with the Redskins in 2016. Turning 32 in February, Hood has lost much of his effectiveness but will likely land another gig as a depth signing.

Another tough injury. One of the DLs distinct advantages last year was the ability to rotate guys in and not have a significant loss of talent. This year you can't rotate as much and the talent level plummets when you rotate.
Wait until next year is a terrible philosophy
      Hope is not a strategy
      RIP

last week I read somewhere that he was close, even speculating that he was almost ready to come back last week.
We're looking for people that are fundamentally different,” vice president of player personnel Andy Weidl said Saturday night. “The love and passion for football, it's non-negotiable. They're caring, their character, they do the right thing persistently, and they have a relentless playing style that you can see on tape. The motor, it burns hot. You see them finishing plays. They have a team-first mentality. They're selfless individuals.

I doubt very much if Jernigan is coming back. The contract was rewritten with no guaranteed money. Maybe next year.

Don't expect to see Sproles or Jerrnigan this week.

Just not sure what you're saying-- did you hear something or you just don't expect them back?

Both. I think it was just speculation by Spads or Lawler but I just don't think that you mess with back surgeries, especially in football. The way that they adjusted his contract pretty much says that the Eagles don't expect him back but if he can come back the Eagles have his rights.

Sorry, I read something on CBS 247 about both. Not looking good for this week.

Jernigan was seen watching practice yesterday and it got everybody all excited. For $3 million you're supposed to do things like that. Big deal.
