The Eagles on Monday agreed to a three-year contract extension with guard Isaac Seumalo, who was due to become a free agent after the upcoming season.
Seumalo is due to earn $749,000 with a $939,966 cap hit in 2019, and the extension kicks in for 2020 and runs through 2022, the team announced. Terms were not immediately available.
Seumalo, 25, was the Eagles’ third-round pick in 2016. He’s started 15 games, including nine last year. He started four as a rookie — one at left guard, two at right guard and one at right tackle — plus two at left guard in 2017 and 11 at left guard last year, including both playoff games.
Seumalo began the Super Bowl season as the starting left guard before losing his job to Stefen Wisniewski after three games. Wisniewski began last year as the left guard before Seumalo won the job back in Week 4. He remained there the rest of the year, other than three late-season games that Wiz started when Seumalo was hurt.
With Brandon Brooks’ status unknown following his Achilles rupture in the Saints playoff game, Seumalo becomes an important piece and projects as the likely starting opening-day right guard in 2019.
Seumalo stands 6-foot-4, 305 pounds, and although he has struggled at times for the most part, he’s delivered the Eagles steady, physical play, and the team believes he has a ton of upside.
Seumalo is the third projected 2019 starter the Eagles have signed over the last week. They inked defensive end Brandon Graham, who was due to become a free agent later this month, to a three-year extension and added a year to all-pro center Jason Kelce’s contract.

IMO he is a stable and flexible backup. But, he does not deserve starter money. So, hopefully his extension is not much different from his current salary.

I think they value Seumalo much more than the fans value Seumalo.

Kind of adds to my belief that the Eagles believe Seumalo has much more value than fans see. I still think they see him as the replacement for Kelce but with Kelce signing extension maybe they are looking to keep Seumalo at guard and move on from Wis.
