Scott Lauber Blog:
The Phillies will send a scout to watch left-hander Noah Lowry throw next Tuesday, according to a source. Lowry, 29, hasn’t pitched since 2007 due to a pair of surgeries, including one to relieve thoracic outlet syndrome (compression of nerve or artery in the shoulder by a rib). But he went 14-8 with a 3.92 ERA for the Giants in ‘07 and won 13 games and posted a 3.78 ERA in ‘05. The Reds, Dodgers, Cardinals, Astros, Nationals, Mariners, Cubs, Braves, Mets and Red Sox also reportedly will attend.
But unless the Phillies can find a bargain, they’re probably finished shopping for the offseason.
“At some point, you get to the point where you’ve just got to see what you’ve got,” Amaro said, “and we’re probably as close to that stage as we’ve been all offseason. While we’re not necessarily satisfied with where we are, we’re comfortable going into the spring with what we’ve got and letting things play out.”
