  • New WR Coach

A couple reports out there that the Eagles have hired Carson Walch as their new WR coach. He was an OC in the CFL this past year, and was a low-level coach with Marc Trestman on the Bears a few years back.

Lot of varied experience, it looks like.

2000-02 Wide Receivers/Passing Game Coordinator, Winona State University
2003-05 Offensive Coordinator, Dakota State University
2006 ST Coordinator/Running Back Coach, University of St. Thomas
2007-09 Assistant Head Coach/Offensive Coordinator, Winona State University
2010-11 Special Teams Assistant, Montreal Alouettes
    2012 Receivers, Montreal Alouettes
2013-14 Offensive Quality Control/Receivers, Chicago Bears
2015 Offensive Consultant, University of Minnesota
2016 Receivers/Pass Game Coordinator, Edmonton Eskimos
    2017 Offensive Coordinator/Receivers, Edmonton Eskimos

Lots of colleges, 5 years on two CFL teams, and a couple years in the NFL. He played RB at Winona State and grew up in Minnesota. All of those colleges are Minnesota or South Dakota.

This article named him one of the better play-callers in the CFL this past year, so he would presumably have experience in game planning.

I wonder where the hell Doug found him? The guy sure sticks with it. 17 years working with wrs. He should know it all by now!

He was with the Bears, maybe Alshon Jeffrey recommended him.

Was Groh with the Bears at that time?

EDIT: just saw he and Groh were there together
Wait until next year is a terrible philosophy
        Hope is not a strategy
        RIP

Yep, that's the connection. Walch was the quality control/receivers coach in 2013/2014 under Groh.

Very possible. The Twitter reports I saw were not exactly official and may have left that detail out.

Wonder if Groh will keep some of his WR coach role, with Walch helping. But I guess the Eagles will figure out the whole staff and announce it all at once; it's possible there are unreported changes as well.

It's Groh's job to coach his coaches. It should work from the top down.

True. And that would be Groh's guy.

Looks like the Eagles did hire a WR coach as well though

Gunter Brewer, the "co-offensive coordinator/wide receivers coach" at North Carolina. He was Mack Hollins' WR coach in college.

Looks pretty much like a career college guy, interesting. He probably fits the "teacher" part of Pederson's requirement well.
