Well that wasn't the point of this particular topic but since you ask-- the answer is IMO-- It depends on what kind of team you have, what kind of coach you have and what he believes the best way to win a game is.

fair enough. But that is what sparked my rant and also Bowen's column. (and you mentioned that is what sparked this thread) The fact that we did get big leads and logic dictates a change in gameplan.

what kind of team do you think we have? Cuz in the off-season and pre-season many on this board thought we now had an O-Line capable of running the ball and cementing wins when we got the lead. BWest and many on here thought he was capable of running more

whatever happened to being aggresive, get the lead and then run the clock?

lately it's become, be aggresive, get the lead, continue passing while defenses figure out we are going to pass every down, eventually struggle, hold on for dear life

Lets also take a step back. Lets consider that until very recently in NFL terms running the ball was the favored method on offense. Until the 49er days with Montana, passing was almost a trick play. Thus most people have been brought up with a running style experience.

For a running style offense TOP is a great indicator of success. Hands down.

Is TOP an indicator of the type of offense rather than a indicator of winning?

Let's not revise here,,, 1. I think this team (since it is directed by) and plays are called by AR-- is a passing team. 2. Nobody every thought this off season that this team would be transformed into a running machine-- only that the balance would be more in line, over all!

Each game and circumstances within that game should dictate how AR thinks is the best way to win. Not some pre determined ratio that somebody(the fans or the media) other than the people actually responsible for the team decides.

Thus the reason for posing the question. The NFL has evolved, the game is now more than ever a passing game(many articles on the subject)--- yet some of the old cliches` don't want to change with them.

Regardless, TOP, IMO, is only a by-product of that game in todays NFL.

Not a goal to be sought by EVERY team and EVERY Offense, IMO.

And people unfairly judge teams and coaches based on old perceptions and cliches`.
