The Spencer trade pisses me off, not because of the Spencer selection, but because of the following reasons:
    1. They traded with a divisional rival and allowed them to strengthen their team.
    2. They traded down to pick Kolb, a player that has been used sparingly behind McNabb when the team had and still has holes to fill in starting positions.

      Good points.

The trade would have made sense if they moved McNabb a year or two later, and used the resultant picks to fill holes. Instead, the team stuck with McNabb and remained glued to the pass-happy variant of the WCO that McNabb really is not as well suited to as Kolb is.

How about a skier for a returner, or an Aussie punter, or making a late round rookie corner your starting safety, or Chris GoCong for...what the heck is he now, anyway?

The Eagles have had their share of horrendously awful draft picks -- Moats, McCoy, Gardener, etc... But they also have some very good starters who they've drafted: Bradley, Cole, Patterson/Bunkley, Brown (who very clearly seems hurt), Maclin, Jackson, Celek, Avant, McCoy. Not to mention McNabb who's been a great QB for a while.

It just seems they end up having insurmountable mistakes made every season at a certain position or two. You can't have a PB at every position, but you need a serviceable: fullback, returner, tight end, defensive end (pre-cole), WR (pre-jackson), MLB, etc.. This year it seemed more injury related than anything else. But they've got a huge challenge next season with a bunch of guys trying to return from injuries and potentially a mediocre FA crop.

The draft is indeed a gamble for all of the teams. Like you say, can't hit on all of the picks all of the time.

And your FA comment may be true too. If things fall the way that you say here, wouldnt that make the draft a bit more important for reloading? As a result of that added emphasis, more picks would mean more chances to get a player or two. Which can feed right into the trade scenario speculation.

Good points - I didnt mean to pose the question as "the Eagles dont draft well", but more here were two examples of the Eagles helping Dallas get two pretty good players (one who wouldn't necessarily fit the system, and one who some eagles fans wanted, Felix) and if anyone's opinion has changed on making those moves then vs. now / if it was just coincidence it was dallas / if you believe those players would have helped the Eagles more than the Cowboys(also getting to taz's point on what else the eagles got) etc.
