Saints: TE Shockey hospitalized in Las Vegas for dehyrdration

    Story Highlights
TMZ.com reports Shockey left a Las Vegas pool party on a stretcher

Also, Shockey was found unconscious when paramedics were called

The Saints said Shockey was suffering from deyhdyration and that he's fine now

NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- A New Orleans Saints team spokesman says tight end Jeremy Shockey was taken to a hospital but is doing fine after being treated for dehydration.
Greg Bensel confirmed Sunday that the team was aware that Shockey was released from the hospital but did not release many details.
Celebrity gossip site TMZ.com first reported that paramedics wheeled Shockey out on a stretcher from a pool party at the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas after he was found unconscious Sunday afternoon.
Shockey has been in the Pro Bowl four times, most recently in 2006. Before playing for the Saints, Shockey was with the New York Giants. In eight seasons, Shockey has 421 receptions for 4,711 yards and 27 touchdowns.

I ate at Nobu in the Hard Rock there last night. He was there for Rehab, which is a shit show of a pool party. "Dehydration" must be code for "hammered"...

Seriously, how does one get dehydrated to the point of having to go the hospital inside a restaurant? Sounds really fishy to me...

It was probably the last stop in a multi-day binge. Alcohol does dehydrate you. And if you don't take time out between parties to rehydrate, you can get dehydrated to the point you can't function.

I suppose the hospital could have ruled it alcohol intoxication. But the dehydration code probably pays more.

(I just verified that with my wife who makes her living choosing the most profitable code for a hospital. In a case like this, the Hospital gets most of its reimbursement for the primary code given. Dehydration pays better than Alcohol Toxicity. The hospitals don't get much money for either code. But they do a lot of volume on that combination.)

Very interesting bullwinkle...disconcerting hospitals assign diagnosis based on what code will pay them the most, but I realize this is only the "public" diagnosis and that its another reason our health care system needs revamping

Shockey must have been quite hammered to pass out poolside and have to be taken to the hospital for treatment. If I am the Saints, I am worried about him and want a sit-down with him to find out where his fucking brain can be located.

              * This is common practice. It's all a huge unethical game between insurers and the hospitals. You've probably had your dentist or primary care physician do this on a procedure for you and you didn't even know.

The answer: NO! I hate this MF'er.

                Should Eagles Sign Jeremy Shockey?

                Should Eagles Sign Jeremy Shockey?
The NewOrleansSaints cut veteran tight end Jeremy Shockey on Tuesday and Shockey says he wants to make the Saints pay for cutting him.

The big question: Will the Philadelphia Eagles make a play for the former New York Giants' star?

Interest in Shockey is expected to be heated before March 4th, when the NFL is expected to lock out players.

"I'll just go play hard for someone else. Whoever gets me, it's going to be a steal," Shockey said after his release.

Shockey, 31, had career lows in 2010. Shockey caught three touchdowns with 41 receptions and 408 yards.

But the Eagles ran more two tight-end sets last year, and the prospect of adding Shockey to Brent Celek could interest the Eagles, who are always looking to add more wrinkles to their offense.

Rookie Clay Harbor struggled for the Eagles as the team's second tight end, and Shockey could extend his career with the Eagles.
Shockey would also give the Eagles another red zone option for Michael Vick.

And the Eagles have the financial freedom to make Shockey a competitive offer before March 4th.

Another factor: the Eagles know Shockey very well from his time in New York and would knowhow to use him best in their offense.

I'd consider it, based on his health.

Shockey is a turd and the antithesis of the kind of character that wins SBs. He's also over rated and just a name at this point imo.

I like how Tiki is 2 steps toward the locker room before Shockey even gets it.
