Les Bowen reporting that Akers has signed with the 49ers. Whew...Good. I really didn't want him to wind up in Washington.

Or Dallas.
49ers released Nedney.
For a year we are "going for it", it seems dangerously risky to have rookies at either kicker or punter, let alone both. And a linebacking corps with virtually no starting experience, but that's another thread.

Late 7/28/11 Update. It's official.
49ers agreed to terms with K David Akers on a three-year contract.
After three shaky seasons from 2005-2007, Akers has been a top-five fantasy kicker from 2008-2010. Unfortunately, he can't take his offensive teammates with him to the Bay Area. While Akers is an upgrade on Joe Nedney, he's now just another kicker in fantasy leagues.

Best of luck to Money!"Philly fans are great....It's the only place where you pull up on the bus and you've got the grandfather, the grandmother, the kids and the grandkids - everybody flicking you off. At other stadiums, they give you the thumbs-down. Here, they give you the middle finger.”

"No one likes us, no one likes us, no one likes us, we don’t care, we’re from Philly, F—-ing Philly, No one likes us, we don’t care!”
