MacLin's touching story serves to remind us that not all NFL players are impulsive immature children in adult bodies. The sports media being what it is, the turds get most of the attention for off the field activities.
Not many parallels, but this story brings to mind that of LB Keith Bulluck, who was abandoned by his mother at the age of 13 and then taken in by his best friend's family, who eventually adopted him when it was clear that his mother was gone for good. After he made it to the NFL, he managed to locate her (or did she find him?). He is cordial with her but considers his adopted family his true family.
