At 6-foot-1 and 198 pounds, he looks the part in every way. But while he appears to be a prototypical NFL cornerback, he’s an atypical NFL candidate. “Two years ago, I would have never imagined I’d be in the position I am now,” he said. “At one point, I thought my dream was so far out of reach.”
He had odd jobs — at a gun range, a cable company, as a janitor. The worst was when an apartment complex flooded.
“There was water and trash in the basement,” he said, “and human feces. We had to take out all of the items and set them outside before we could clean the basement. It stinks. And I’m getting paid $40.”
All the while, he used student loans to take classes and his wife worked as a dance instructor to supplement their income. Still, football was never far from his thoughts.
