  • Roger Goodell and the Ray Rice wrist slap.

When I heard that hard ass disciplinarian Goodell had given Rice only a 2 game suspension for knocking his woman out on video, the first thing that occurred to me is 'This is just groundwork for slapping Irsay's wrist'. It seems that is a conclusion many in the media are reaching as well.

    Let's see what happens.

Disgraceful and the explanation is even worse. Violence against another human being is 2 games but touch a supplement (and most everyone in the league is doing something allowed or not) and its 4.

        Anybody actually seen the video?

Living where I live I certainly do not like the Ravens and IMO they are a bunch of thugs....... but the DA saw fit to leave this alone, and the NFL only gave him 2 games --- and nobody else knows what is on that tape.
I'm just not sure I'd be so quick to judge. I get the feeling that SHE may have had a very big part in this whole mess.

Disclaimer #261543-- No this doesn't mean I'm in favor of domestic violence.

if he had the confidence in the evidence to give 2 games, more would have been better.

I'm sure it was a totally ugly situation. I imagine she was hammering on him too. I do know that people do pass out easy when they're drunk. If she didn't provoke it she wouldn't have married him because she'd be scared stiff. I'm wondering how many of us would be suspended from our jobs for such a crime? I really don't know.

Or maybe after seeing the tape he had the confidence in 2 games because it is what it really warranted?

I dunno, and I didn't see the tape.

Can't think of WHY he would go lite on Rice???? What would be his motive?

I agree that sometimes people (media) rush in when they don't have all the evidence. DAs usually don't turn a blind eye to domestic violence so I can't say what was the right punishment. But..
Goodell doesn't need 'legally binding beyond a reasonable doubt' type info to suspend. He does stuff just because. His actions with others, with this, with the Colts owner, etc don't always add up to an even playing field. But I don't know any rule in life that there has to be an even playing field--it just doesn't sit right with many. I see no reason why Goodell doesn't come out and give reasons for his decisions.
60-- don't know why but it happens often that there are women who will stay with a hitter even when they can leave. The fact that she married him doesn't mean he isn't an abuser (or that he is). And people are canned from their jobs on DV arrests. I've been out of it for awhile but I think it is still federal law that a DV conviction means you can't carry a weapon so if you're a cop or security or armored car driver or whatever you lose your job.
Wait until next year is a terrible philosophy
                Hope is not a strategy
                RIP

Regardless of what is on the tape, every media pundit that I have heard, and every fan that I have talked to are basically saying the same thing. That the NFL really fucked up by not coming down hard on Rice. He should have gotten at least 4 games, probably more. I don't care if the DA ran with it, or not. He punched a woman in the face, and knocked her unconscious. He's lucky he didn't hurt her worse than he did.

There is no rule or law mandating an 'even playing field'. All we have to go by is Goodell's word...that 'owners will be held to a higher standard than players'.

So much for the street value of 'Goodell's word'.

As far as Goodell offering the public his reasons for making a very unpopular decision, monarchs usually feel no obligation to explain things to their subjects.

Really? I didn't see the tape where he punched her in the face and knocked her unconscious. If this is true the citizens of NJ should be after this DA's job.

Not sure what motive the DA and the NFL had to go light on Rice. Irsay I can see, Rice ? Sorry I refuse to jump at those kinds of conclusions.

Sure would not like to have some of you guys as a jury of my peers.

What bothers me the most is how many times has a player been punished far worse for violating the NFL's morals clause. The hypocrisy of punishing a PED user four games and a wife-beater only two is pathetic.

Goodell again is exposed as either a blatant liar, a spineless snake, or both.

The 'NFL' is now claiming 'they' didn't see the video of Rice punching the woman until the public did. That is either a flat out lie or Goodell decided it was best that 'he not see the video'...you know, 'plausible deniability'.

Goodell is very slick as he goes about his days whoring himself for his $40 mil per year. But in the end he is a truly despicable human being.
