Quantcast Chargers rookie Denzel Perryman scolded for playing dodgeball
Injured Chargers inside linebacker Denzel Perryman, played in a charity dodgeball tournament on Saturday, Michael Gehlken of UT San Diego reports.
The Chargers were not thrilled with the weekend activity of their second-round pick. Out with a minor hamstring ailment, Perryman mostly has been a spectator during organized team activities, not cleared for team drills in any of the four OTA practices to date. The team has since made its stance clear.
Coach Mike McCoy saw video of the otherwise impressive performance.
"It's been discussed," McCoy said. "That's all I'm going to say. I've discussed it with him. That's it. You've got to get past these tests here before you do all of that stuff."
There is no indication Perryman suffered a setback from playing dodgeball. The Chargers still have high hopes for their physical rookie linebacker from Miami.
Linebacker Donald Butler attended the event. He laughed Monday afternoon when asked about Perryman. By then, McCoy and the coaching staff had made its position on the matter clear.
"Yeah, (Denzel) needs to be chilling out on that dodgeball stuff," Butler said.
