The pilot hired by Eagles fans to fly a banner over Dallas Cowboys practice has been killed in a plane crash, according to a report from NBC Los Angeles. More details:
"One person was killed Sunday when a single-engine plane crashed and burned during takeoff at Compton-Woodley Airport.

The plane, towing a banner, crashed at about 12:30 p.m. on a runway at the county-owned airport in the 900 block of West Alondra Boulevard, about two miles southwest of Compton's central business district. Images from the scene showed the plane on fire, sending thick smoke over the airport."

This is obviously terrible news. What was meant to be a prank turned into a deadly disaster.
Here's reaction from the Eagles fan who organized the plane:

Earlier on Sunday, a pilot hired by Cowboys fans (and Greg Hardy) flew a banner over the Eagles' practice during the National Anthem. That pilot was hired after Eagles fans originally came up with the idea to mess with Cowboys fans.

We're looking for people that are fundamentally different,” vice president of player personnel Andy Weidl said Saturday night. “The love and passion for football, it's non-negotiable. They're caring, their character, they do the right thing persistently, and they have a relentless playing style that you can see on tape. The motor, it burns hot. You see them finishing plays. They have a team-first mentality. They're selfless individuals.

Eagles fans NOT responsible for hiring the banner pilot who crashed, per report

This might clear things up, but it's still sad.

It appears Philadelphia Eagles fans are NOT responsible for hiring the pilot who was killed in a California plane crash on Sunday. According to Stephen McKenzie of 6ABC, the pilot hired by Eagles fans is alive and well.

McKenzie's report falls in line with what the Los Angeles Times reported on Sunday evening. Bold emphasis is mine:

"Enkone Goodlow, an artist who rents a hangar at the airport, said he and some spectators had watched the pilot repeatedly try to hook a Bud Light banner. The banner was tied to a mastpole on the ground and the pilot would fly by and try to snare it with a grappling hook dangling from the plane before pulling up.

"Usually, people get it the first time if not the second time, but it took [the pilot] seven times," Goodlow said. "We thought it was not normal. I wondered what was going on when after the seventh successful hook, all of a sudden, his plane nosed to the ground. We ran full blast toward it, thinking we could pull him out."

But they were too late. With the plane engulfed in flames, Goodlow said he jumped on an airport-based fire truck and headed to the crash scene."

To recap: the pilot hired by the Eagles fan is OK but he couldn't fly the banner over Cowboys practice due to the other pilot who was killed in the crash.

The confusion that Eagles fans were connected with the deceased pilot stemmed from tweets by the one fan who organized the banner event.

Whew! Thank goodness. Probably a good idea just to put this aside and for the team to show the Cowboys on the field.

Won't matter --- it will forever be added to the list that Eagles fans have been attributed to.

In about 3 years it will be noted that in fact we hired the guy and had something to do with killing him.

He dressed up as Santa once, so we had him killed

The banners were still bad karma, though thankfully maybe not pilot-killing bad. And someone still died, which is pretty horrible.

This is all a big mistake. The pilot was supposed to tie Joe Banner to the plane and drop him on Romo and Dez during camp. Somehow it got all screwed up and the wrong guy died....
