  • Eagles to hire Personel Chief

Or least says this article. Citing Mike Garafolo as the reporter.

This should make some people happy who think that Roseman is in charge of Personel.

This sounds very promising. Someone who has experience running a personnel department is what I've wanted to see since Modrak was forced out.

It does make sense, Dohanue is a well respected guy in the industry but I think they do need more. Wouldn't surprise me is Ryan Grigson comes back here if the Colts fire him.

I don't see how that defines any roles. Honestly it sounds like too many cooks spoil the soup. Who gets the final say?

Final say is over rated. We don't need no stinking Final Say.

Seriously, this report tells me the situation is fluid. In other words nobody has final say right now because Lurie wants to see what is out there, see if they can get a quality front office guy in here. If that guy requires final say he may just give it to him.

Same could go for a coach. If say Jon Gruden wants to come back and he says to Lurie that he is fine with Howie, Tom etc. but he wants final say over the roster. He could go in that direction.

This is pretty smart by Lurie right now. BTW if the front office working well final say really doesn't mean much, most of the time they will debate and then agree on players pretty easily.

Well final say was enough for Bill Parcells to get fired in NE because he squaked about a first round choice years ago. I don't see how that's overrated. But if they can work together that's fine. If Howie insists on churning the roster all season long that isn't OK. I just hope it works! Happy New Year taz!!!

Final say should always be the coach but it's up to the personnel guys to get him the best options, Roseman can't do that.

Happy New Year to you also. I was saying the final say thing in jest. I believe Luries vision has always been the coach has final say over the roster. But.... if they hire a really green coach like Andy was when we first got him a veteran guy like Donahue or like it or hate it, Roseman might get the final say. Like I said final say is one thing but that really only comes into play when there is a tie or disagreement. Most of the time these guys come to a consensus.

Its really the fans who want to know who has final say so they know who to blame with the player doesn't make it. Personally I am going to blame only one person going forward for things that go wrong and that is Lurie.

qft. The vast majority of the time the fans have no idea of what is going on with their favorite team. They blame Andy for this pick or Howie for that pick or Banner for the bad food in the draft room when in reality it rarely gets out who wanted who. Personally, I think the majority of the time they come to a consensus with the coach saying what he thinks he needs on the roster and the personnel guy saying this is what I can provide and the coach saying this is the way I would like to go and the personnel man saying that didn't work out so how about we go this way.......etc......etc
The one exception for the birds the I can put my finger on is that Chip had all the power. No others in his way. Andy still had Banner that he was dealing with
Wait until next year is a terrible philosophy
                    Hope is not a strategy
                    RIP

There's a guy out there that I always liked while watching the draft. Charlie Casserly , he had a bunch of talent in Washington and didn't seemed to pigeonhole them by size or height. A player was a player. IMO and more now than ever we need someone who can look at the roster and call a spade a spade, can get some mid tier FAs and pick out THE player and can draft talent while shooting as few blanks as possible.
We're looking for people that are fundamentally different,” vice president of player personnel Andy Weidl said Saturday night. “The love and passion for football, it's non-negotiable. They're caring, their character, they do the right thing persistently, and they have a relentless playing style that you can see on tape. The motor, it burns hot. You see them finishing plays. They have a team-first mentality. They're selfless individuals.

Charlie was a high school coach a couple towns over when he was younger. He really paid his dues growing with the system. He worked for free at first with the Skins. I'm thinking that he's had enough though. He walked away from Houston and moved onto tv. He's no kid anymore. Who wants that grind at his age?

Maybe the load isn't as difficult if you have a committee , but one thing for sure, this draft is pivotal to this team and Charlie has some serious info on this draft class. Maybe you get him short term and give him a young guy to groom as a replacement
