  • (OT) The Eternal Sushine of Spectrum Cable

Have any of you guys (and lady) been visited with this plague? Our home in upstate NY as well as our place in FL both now have The Joy of Spectrum. What an obnoxious pack of assholes. Time Warner (in NY) was OK and I really liked Bright House in FL. Both were replaced by Spectrum. Kill me!

In spite of their constant vomit inducing, self-laudatory commercials, these shameless assholes are just bandits. IN NY, they jumped my 'bundle' by over $20 /month and cut the NFL Network.

The only thing that is keeping me from making an Alfred P Murrah visit with a rented truck to their local office is the recent commercials using a variety of horror creatures. They are actually pretty witty and well done. (And I hate saying anything the least bit positive about these thieves.)

Any opinions on Spectrum? I'm seriously considering "cutting the cord".

I hate them all tino! To me Comcast is the worst followed by Verizon. If I were you I'd consider Direct TV. They'd probably give you a good deal too for the first year anyway. The good thing about that is you can also take it with you to Florida with you in the winter with a portable satellite. At least you can "talk" with those people where the others just tell you to switch if you don't like it. Nobody up here has a good thing to say about Spectrum either.

yea sorry tino. I have direct tv. my only options up here are direct tiv, dish, local cable, or things like hulu. no dealings with the big providers such as Comcast.
but I will say that oversight of comm companies is lacking. I agree with free market as opposed to gov run but you have to regulate and have oversight. otherwise the only thing the bastards care about is more money for their pockets and the pockets of the shareholders. customers be damned since they are only there to give you more money. end of rant
Wait until next year is a terrible philosophy
      Hope is not a strategy
      RIP

Been using comcast since 1973--- other than my perception of prices--- I have never had a problem with them.

Have they changed their channel guide yet? I remember it used to go through every channel and take at least 5 minutes to go through them all. It sucked.

We just went from TWC to Spectrum. What a damn nightmare. We were told numerous times we had to swap out boxes, took them in and we were told differently. back and forth. prices went up $70 a month and there were no options to reduce. Hate the bastards and in rural areas that is all we have to pick from. Not doing dish.

Wow, has been a long time for you bud. Channel guide is not an old rolling guide in the last like 15 years. You control guide. X1 is very cool.

I think that I dropped cable about the same time the Hindenburg crashed.

I'd like the local channels outa here and Nashville and by the time I do dish and then address internet and phone, I am back to a similar price. The lost channels simply don't warrant the savings.

Now, if I could package the channels I want and not allow Spectrum to build useless packages we must have to get the ones we want......

I am with 60 on this I hate Comcast with a pass. Unfortunately yet ae the only game in town for me other than DirecTV. I'd go to DTV in a second but I would still need an internet provider which leaves me with Comcast. When I first moved here we had DTV with dial up internet through the phone company. Back then DTV was fantastic! Not sure what they're like now but I'll tell you this tino, if you go with them consider buying a second dish set up via eBay to use in Florida. Once you have it you should be able to get info online on how to install and point it to the right locations to pick up the satellite there. Then order a couple of extra boxes from DTV (will run about $10 each) and install them in Florida. DO NOT connect them to the phone! (Means no pay per view down there.) People near my in laws do this and pay for a a single home with more boxes than they need and get the second house for $10 per box each month.

You get local channels now with DTV Fred, at least we do up here.

I would like to go the Direct TV route. Unfortunately, we have a line of absolutely huge evergreen trees (around 100'high) close to the side of our house which were directly in the satellite path (South West) when I checked a couple years ago. Perhaps I need to check to see if anything has changed ...more satellites etc...so that Direct TV is more feasible.

That sucks. Is there any way that you could do it running the cable underground to the dish that's in a good spot? I've seen that with people who don't want it on their roof.

Thanks for the suggestions Juk. We live in a small condo complex on the Gulf during the winter. Unlike home, the signal path would not be a problem so I could put the Dish right on the balcony.

We pay about half as much in Florida for the same bundle with Spectrum because 1) the condo association pays for basic cable and 2) identical services in Florida have been about 15% cheaper vs NY since we bought our place 15 years ago. Go figure!

More even than increasing my bundle price and reducing the number of channels, it's the blatant arrogance with Spectrum that really pisses me off.

I've read consistently bad things about Comcast's crappy service and and indifference attitude toward customers. I say an example needs to be made with a few Comcast and Spectrum. Public flogging might be a good place to start.
