Wow. Situational and shot for Haden. Over the top superlatives for Darby

I totally get a rebuilding team like the Browns not liking the contract they had for Haden. But let's not let that blind what our eyes see

Haden would have hands down been our best corner had we signed him

I'm ok with us passing based on our youth and potential though. I betcha we were in on him for a 1 year 8 plus mil contract offer. Or something like that which would have countered any situational or shot thoughts

I really don't think that Haden made any sense for the Birds. I think that they just want to roll with the young guys that they have and find out if they're any good or not. Plus they think Jones is going to be good. I guess that Cleveland wanted him to take a cut and sign for what Pittsburgh ended up giving him and he turned down more money from other teams. He isn't shot (LOL) and it looks like he just wanted to play for the Steelers.

He signed to a contender plus someone who plays the Browns twice a year. Good deal for him. I much rather roll with what they have. Now if Buffalo is having that fire sale then you have to look at Shady. Same goes for the Jets and Wilkerson.

Corner, HB and LB depth are my major concerns still

I still would have rather taken Foster with our first pick.

Haden was truly atrocious in 2015. He was better last year, but I think he was still the 98th rated CB by some measures (I didn't find exactly who came up with that number). Now, he played through several groin injuries last year, so he is better than that. Provided he is healthy -- and that is a serious question as he has not been healthy two seasons running now -- he would be the best CB on our roster, most likely, including Darby.

Eagles are in no position to sign a big-time CB anymore -- we just invested a high pick in Sidney Jones, and paid a fair bit for Darby, who would be the corners going forward. You'd have to sit one next year, and destroy all salary cap flexibility, in order to sign Haden since it may have taken a multi-year contract. On a one-year contract, that may have been more interesting. But pretty sure a lot of our space right now is ticketed to roll over and be available next year, and not sure we want to significantly hurt that.

Yes, CB is a definite concern. Darby is a huge help, but that may just improve them to mediocre. Haden would probably help this year, but likely be a fit problem next year. Plus, he's had significant injury concerns two years running. If that continues, then no, he would not be the best CB on the roster. I just didn't see anywhere near a fit with the Eagles.

As noted, Haden hasn't been elite for a couple of seasons. Joe Haden of 2014 would be the best CB on our roster. Haden of 2017? Not so much. I'd rather have Darby on his rookie deal, to be honest.

The Eagles haven't exactly had good luck with free agent CBs lately anyways.

Haden might rebound. Sometimes a change of scenery makes all the difference in the world, just ask Charlie Garner. But, the Eagles can't afford to take a risk like that.

On a team in Cleveland with no offense and no pass rush, it can't be easy to get the PFF ratings that some people overrate

Not too even mention the talent of the Steelers, Bengals and Ravens in their division

Guess I am saying Darby would have been even worse in that situation

Charlie would have had a great career here too IF THEY HAD PUT HIM ON THE FIELD!!! Waters would bitch every time he came out and they gave into him. Garner asked to be traded and they accommodated him. Too bad that he didn't stick around because Reid was just coming in any probably would have had the balls to play him more. I remember Walsh saying that he got a steal when the Eagles practically gave him away.

I'd still much rather have Darby on his rookie deal, than give Haden a big FA contract. Darby is young, and has upside. Haden's best days are behind him.

I'm not going by PFF ratings either. A blind man could see Haden's play has dropped off over the last couple seasons. Cleveland has loads of cap space. Money is not an issue for them. The fact that they just let Haden walk for nothing should tell you something.

Moot anyways at this point. We'll just have to see how he plays, and how Darby plays this season.

Footballoutsiders had Haden as very lowly rated the last two years as well. Their quote (per other online articles):
After a horrendous injury-plagued 2015, Haden ranked 76th out of 87 cornerbacks in adjusted yards per pass in 2016. Quarterbacks certainly aren't afraid anymore, as Haden's estimated target percentage has been over 20 percent in the last three seasons.
So QBs have been throwing his way a lot, meaning the other Cleveland CBs may be just as good relative to the WRs they were covering (hard to believe), or he has declined. Granted, he has been injured quite a bit the last two seasons, so that may account for a lot of it. And Cleveland was very easy to beat with RBs and TEs last year, so teams may not have been throwing downfield unless it was a clear opportunity where the receiver was well open.

But anything at this point is based on projections of both health and a return to old form in a new system, which are far from guarantees. Worth kicking the doors on a one-year contract, but not at a top rate, and definitely not multi-year. I guess the contract he signed could be a 1-year, 7 million contract if they cut him right after the season (meaning the Steelers would get nearly 4 million in dead money next year), but that is still not a contract the Eagles should enter into given the cap situation -- they have already pushed cap money into next year.
