I'm wondering if Oakland really remembers what Gruden is like? I think the reason Gruden likes broadcasting so much is that he's still around the game and can be "one of the guys". He almost never criticizes anybody. He got called on it in the Eagle game when he said "this system is screwed up if Kelce is not in the Pro Bowl". When his partner listed two other great centers who Gruden had touted and laughed Gruden said "I love everybody!". Now he's being brought in to supposedly fix the "broken" Carr.
Does anybody else remember what Gruden did to his QBs the last couple of years at Tampa? He must have had about 6 of them in his merry go round, all in the same season. He'd bench one, bring in another and go sign another one. It was crazy. I figured that he finally retired because he had cracked! So my question is, how is Carr going to handle this. To me he seems like a good kid who isn't going to handle the tough love. He thought Simms was soft and the kid damned near killed himself playing with a ruptured spleen.
OK, so maybe Gruden has mellowed. We all do, but who the heck wants a mellowed coach? I think that he should just stay in the booth where he's very respected and stick with that career. I don't think the Oakland thing is going to work out.
