  • Greg Lewis..........

After reading the attached article-- I'm not sure how to feel about this guy!

On one hand I admire his sense of loyalty, on the other I question his judgment in picking friends.

On one hand it's nice that he is keeping an even keel about the Dullass game-- but he also shows no passion and no sense of what being a Philadelphia Eagle means........I dunno about this guy, I dunno.

A friend of Owens' maintains warm ties
    By Marc Narducci
    Inquirer Staff Writer

Wide receiver Greg Lewis scored two touchdowns in a game for the first time in his career in the Eagles' 31-9 victory over the visiting Green Bay Packers on Monday night.

Lewis, 26, who became the No. 1 receiver last season after Terrell Owens was booted off the team following the seventh game, was not considered a sure bet to make the Eagles out of training camp this season.

But the fourth-year receiver had a solid camp, and has nine receptions for 155 yards and the two touchdowns in the first four games.

Now Owens is coming back to town with the Dallas Cowboys for tomorrow's 4:15 p.m. matchup. Lewis was among Owens' best friends on the Eagles.

This week, he talked about his friendship with Owens, tomorrow's game, and his role with the Birds.

Question: Have you spoken to T.O. this week?

A: I have talked to him on and off this season, not just this week. He was at my wedding in Chicago this off-season... . To me, he's a good person. Some people may try to make it more than it is and might not be willing to deal with him in certain situations. I mean, everybody has his faults. Nobody is perfect. He has been great to me and I don't have anything wrong with him.

    Q: Did T.O. teach you a lot, football-wise, as a wide receiver?

A: He and Pink [Todd Pinkston] and James Thrash have probably been the most influential with me coming up as a receiver with this organization. James and Pink were here when I came to the Eagles, and taught me how to be a professional - to come in and be on time... . And once T.O. got here, it was T.O. and Pink helping me out in running routes, how to get off bump coverage. T.O. knows a lot of the ins and outs of the receiving position. He was out there with Jerry Rice in San Francisco, and they had that great coaching staff and they taught him a lot, and he brought that with him when he came here, and he was willing to share that with us... . Regardless of what else goes on, when he comes on the football field, it's all business and all work. He's one of the best professionals at that position. And to have him at practice every day and to be able to pick his brain, it did nothing but make us better.

Q: Was it extra special scoring two touchdowns on Monday Night Football?

A: Honestly, it is fun to get touchdowns, don't get me wrong. I don't want to downplay scoring touchdowns, because you always want to score, but it's not as big to me as everybody wants it to be. Any time you score a touchdown, it's big because you may not have a touchdown for eight weeks after that. As long as you are helping the team win in some fashion, it doesn't matter to me.

Q: You were a walk-on at the University of Illinois and didn't even start as a senior. Then you weren't drafted. Do you feel as if you have to prove yourself all the time?

A: That is the mentality I take with me from high school, because I didn't get recruited out of high school. I had a visit to go to Minnesota. I remember I was supposed to go on a Saturday and the dude came to my school on Friday and said, "We signed somebody else and won't bring you in." Ever since then, I thought I had to prove myself day in and day out. It's been giving me extra motivation to go out and do what I know I'm capable of doing regardless of what people say or they think.

Q: When Dallas plays the Eagles, there seems to be a different feeling. Is that accurate?

A: It's not a different feeling for me. From the Philadelphia fans and the media and all this, it's a different feeling. I wasn't brought up on the Dallas Cowboys rivalry, so I'm not, "Oh, it's the Cowboys." I could care less. It's like playing the Texans to me. But it's a big deal for the fans and the community and the players, I guess. You get a little extra motivation. But it's more motivation because it's a division game and we are 0-1 in the division.

Q: The Eagles have lost seven consecutive NFC East games, including one this year. Does that make this game a must win?

A: Every game is a must win for me.

GLew is a servicable 3rd WR. Other than that, he is my least favorite Philadelphia Eagle.

I have no problems with him being friends with TO. I can't stand TO but that doesn't mean everyone else should hate him too.

As far as his passion about the Cowboys, Reid and McNabb are the same way so it's hard for me to fault him for being like that. Some guys are just not very intense.

I hate everything the Cowboys stand for. If you think they are America's team, then you support everything that is wrong with America. The excess, the greed, the lack of maturity, the lack of responsibility, the lack of control. - Luzinski's Gut

Or he is just saying nothing to the media in accordance with usual Eagle speak...

I cannot judge Lewis from this article...it is fluff

I agree with Lewis that expecting everyone to hate TO with every fiber of their beings just because they are Eagles or because TO is a Cowboy is silly...there are plenty of reasons to dislike TO, we do not need to invent more...

I recognize his skills as a good 3/4 WR. I also recognize that as a close TO friend he is his resident apologist. He has never shown any support for DMAC through this terrible interlude and the sooner he is gone the happier I will be. I supported him coming into 2005 and I strongly support him getting out (of Philly) ASAP. F**k him!

After last year, I did not want him on the team coming out of TC.
Then all he does is catch long bombs and TDs, shows me to be a fool.

Who the he!! knows with guy. He's got the speed. He seems to eat up nickel and dime backs As everyone agrees he is not a front line WR.
But teams usually don't have 3-4 front line dbs, so in his roll he works.

He does not have to hate the cowgirls all he has to do is help us win.
So far he has been doing just that. But I won't be going out and buying his jersey either.

Never really liked him, but he does play a role in the offense...but so did Freddie Mitchell and where is he now?

As for the not hating Dallas: Rivalries are more for the fans than the players. However you would think after playing a team twice a year every year, after about 4-5 years of this you would begin to dislike that team too. But to those involved, this is "just a business" afterall.

I was the biggest Greg Lewis fan on the planet going into 2005. And, obviously, I couldn't have been more disappointed. I didn't expect him back in 2006, but I've been so impressed with his performance so far, so now I like him again. I couldn't care less about his friendship with TO or how he feels about the Cowboys. Greg Lewis doesn't need to be a leader on this team and he'll support McNabb far more by catching his passes than by commenting to the press.

He has been really hot and cold this season. At times he appears to be dominating, at others he is putting the ball on the carpet and dropping the ball.

I don't know if I'd call him 'dominant' at any point, but he had an off game against SF and has been great in the other three games. I'll take that from the #4 receiver. He's even been mixing in some great after-the-catch runs.

                        Me too-
If I were training and up and coming- How could I not want a "TO" to catch hints from- TO eats shit as far as I'm concerned- But as like everybody else- I agree he's one of the best WO's. So it's likely that TO saved his (Lewis') career a bit by showing him the ropes a tad...Bumped his talent a tad...

                        Lewis-
He's soooo ordinary... He's sooo vanilla... He's sooo Greg Lewis. He is a puppy for both Andy and MacDaddio- And I think thats good for us- He's got speed and hands- Check! He's got exp w/WCO- Check! He's liked by the players from what I can gather and will take a hit for'em- Check! He's also pretty spiffy when he catches two TD's in a victory- Check!
