Howie Trades Street
We're looking for people that are fundamentally different,” vice president of player personnel Andy Weidl said Saturday night. “The love and passion for football, it's non-negotiable. They're caring, their character, they do the right thing persistently, and they have a relentless playing style that you can see on tape. The motor, it burns hot. You see them finishing plays. They have a team-first mentality. They're selfless individuals.Tags: None

Ojomo has been a healthy scratch for many games; presumably he can replace Street on gameday. I would guess this also means Carter's injury is not too serious (i.e. no IR coming). It's also possible Street requested a trade (he's playing for a contract next year and is not getting much playing time). There is a condition on the trade (Street must play in six games from here on out), otherwise there is no pick swap.
This opens a roster spot, but we will need several of those -- Jurgens is eligible to come off IR this week, and I think Evans after that (then maybe Watkins). We also need a spot for Julio Jones on the 53-man roster after the Cowboys game. So we needed a spot this week for Jurgens at least (unless he's not healthy yet), and more coming. Sure feels like this move was to provide one of those spots; we need the roster spots for depth elsewhere as we have excessive DTs.

Stroke of genius by Howie. He was gonna need to cut one of those DT in order to get Julio Jones from the PS to the roster and also to get Cam Jurgens back from IR. They still need to clear another spot. My guess is Josiah Scott will get cut but losing Street is no big deal. It think Tupolioto and Ojomo can more than give you what Street was giving you which was a nothing burger. For that he got a 6th round pick this year that he could use to make another move today. I doubt they trade their 1st or either 2nd but they could move the 5th from Minny and now the Sixth from Atlanta in a similar type move to what they did for Byard. Were from Philly F in Philly no one likes us we DON'T CARE!

I love this trade. I feel bad for Street, but the Falcons need a DT and we have too many. Ojomo is at least as good as Street was and eventually someone was going to pick him up off our Practice Squad. This is an A+ move in my mind. You know Darren if you'd have told me 10 years ago that someday I was going to solve the world's energy problems I'd have said your crazy.... now lets drop this big ball of oil out the window.

Ojomo is on the 53-man roster, not the practice squad. He's just been inactive most every game, since I'm sure they were trying to get Street some exposure. We have two more DTs on the practice squad. But yes, I think we were likely going to have to cut Street anyways. They will need more spots soon -- I wonder if they will IR Calcaterra out of caution and play that other TE we have on the roster. Josiah Scott would seem like another obvious candidate, once Roby can come back. Or maybe Goodrich.

FairOaks... thanks for clarifying. I don't fully understand how the new PS and elevations work but I think if we released Ojomo to the PS we'd lose him. He looks the part. Street was expandable. The Calcaterra thing makes sense to me too because of his head issues in college. Can't mess around with that. Everything is on the table for him, including retirement. Josiah Scott is just a guy. I want to see more of Ricks. You know Darren if you'd have told me 10 years ago that someday I was going to solve the world's energy problems I'd have said your crazy.... now lets drop this big ball of oil out the window.
