Free Agency Day 1: Cowboys lose 3 players to open market

FRISCO, Texas — The first day of the legal tampering period saw the Dallas Cowboys stand pat as they head into the new league year needing more financial flexibility to compete in the free agent market.

Day one saw big names come off the board around the NFL including the Cowboys losing two starters on the offensive side of the ball to other teams and the team's second-leading sack-getter from 2023 to a division rival.

Here are the storylines from the first day of action.
    • Running back Tony Pollard will wear a different jersey for the first time in his NFL career as the Tennessee Titans agreed on a three-year/$24 million deal with the former Cowboys offensive weapon on Monday morning. Pollard heads back to his home-state where he played high school and college ball in Memphis. Now, he replaces Derrick Henry in a backfield that also features second-year running back Tyjae Spears. Reports said that the deal exceeded offers from the Cowboys, Giants and Vikings.
    • Defensive lineman Dorance Armstrong saw his final two seasons in Dallas boost his value in the open market as he proved himself as a solid pass rusher with elite special teams ability since being drafted by the Cowboys in 2018. Now, he will follow Dan Quinn to the Washington Commanders on a deal that will see him make $45 million over three years as a featured pass-rusher for the Cowboys' NFC East rivals.
    • Armstrong wasn't the only one to follow Quinn, as center Tyler Biadasz became one of the first centers off the board in a bustling market at the position when he agreed on a three-year/$30 million deal with the Commanders to fortify the middle of their offensive line moving forward.

Good. The girls had some cap issues I guess and they didn’t do much gaining of players. Still to be seen what they pick up off the scrap heap and in the draft but as of today it looks like they’ve lost ground on the east.
Wait until next year is a terrible philosophy
    Hope is not a strategy
    RIP

That’s what you get when you don’t draft OL/DL consistently. And franchise your QB.
You know Darren if you'd have told me 10 years ago that someday I was going to solve the world's energy problems I'd have said your crazy.... now lets drop this big ball of oil out the window.

Sounds like Tyron Smith is on the verge of signing with the Jets. He's been injured a lot in the past but was relatively healthy last year. Dallas has a recent draft pick ready for LT I think but they may need to augment their line some. They also lost their center, as noted above. Much like us last year, the Cowboys need to deal with some of their own contracts and aren't really in a position to make splashes in free agency.

We're looking for people that are fundamentally different,” vice president of player personnel Andy Weidl said Saturday night. “The love and passion for football, it's non-negotiable. They're caring, their character, they do the right thing persistently, and they have a relentless playing style that you can see on tape. The motor, it burns hot. You see them finishing plays. They have a team-first mentality. They're selfless individuals.

Hopefully they lose a couple more offensive lineman this summer along with Dak getting a torn Achilles.

They've got Dak looking to reset the QB market. They've got Lamb, who is going to want to reset the WR market. And, they've got Parsons, who is going to want to reset the edge market. They are going to have to do all three of those guys, and it's going to be very, very expensive.

EB... you are completely right about that. Dallas is a team of a few stars and a bunch of role players that are aging and/or not very good.

Lane is getting older. Zach Martin is 33.

Tyron Smith is going to another team. JM is 26 and locked up.

Tyler Smith is their hope at LT. I think he is just average.

Mazi Smith looks like a bust.

Trevon Diggs is coming off an ACL and to be honest I didn't think he was as good as what they paid him before he got hurt.

                Vander Esch retired.

Malik Hooker? Erik Kendricks? Rico Dowdle is RB1?

                Demarcus Lawrence is 31.

The Cowboys are a sinking ship. CeeDee and Micah are the best players in the league at their positions and at what they do. I really believe that. But they don't have a helluva lot else.

Also, let's remember the Redskins are in a total rebuild and the Giants might be also.

Meanwhile, the Eagles now have the 7th youngest roster in the league and almost all of our key players except for D Smith locked up for 2-3 years.

Howie is cooking man. If Jalen can bounce back we are going to roll next year.

I am getting a bit more excited about next year. But, until I see Fangio actually turn this defense around on the field, I am keeping my expectations at a minimum.

That late season collapse was one for the ages. I don't remember anything like that since the Rich Kotite 7 game losing season. I am still a bit concerned about this teams psyche.

Thomas Mott posted a Hurts workout. The way he is running now makes me think he was really hurting last year. He looks good as new now

Pliny... last year's was worse and I will tell you why. Injuries were an issue last year but not that big a deal. We just started playing like crap and schematically we were a mess. Kotite's 7 game losing streak as I recall was the direct result of Byron Evans breaking his leg and missing the rest of the season.

Man, I remember how bad I felt hearing that news re: Byron Evans. Of course, felt even worse when Kotite's team fell into the abyss!

I must admit that this is so much fun reading about their unraveling! Let them fall back into the pack with a resounding thud!

Weekly media ranking of Dallas in the mid 20s - priceless
