60. They seem intent on proving that time and again. But he was their team. What a monumentally stupid decision. I loved this guy at Penn State. And I remember you, who know more about college football than most humans, really wanted the Birds to draft him. When we played the Gnats after they drafted him, he was the only guy that concerned me. Everytime he touched the ball he had the potential to score. I think he's really speical and he's only 27 with, seemingly, lots of tread left. Seems like a good dude as well.
We're looking for people that are fundamentally different,” vice president of player personnel Andy Weidl said Saturday night. “The love and passion for football, it's non-negotiable. They're caring, their character, they do the right thing persistently, and they have a relentless playing style that you can see on tape. The motor, it burns hot. You see them finishing plays. They have a team-first mentality. They're selfless individuals.
I think their line was such trash that it wouldn't have mattered. He would be averaging 2 yards per carry with 60 yard games if he was still on that team.

Just think of what happened SF. though more watched this guy every day in practice for 6 years and saw that he's superhuman but they don't pay him. They had the same problem with him the year before when they franchised him. They knew the Eagles were after him and realized his value and they still let him go. That my friend is the undeniable definition of an idiot.
Why in the name of God did the Giants, who are arguably one of the 3 worst teams in the NFL, let Barkley walk?
He is wasted there. He would only win them an extra game or two and probably take them out of prime QB slots in the draft. As he did last year.
The Giants refuse to use future cap money to help pay for the current year, so they are always up against the cap it seems. They release guys rather than get something in trade or move cap money around. Given the state of their team, it was a mistake to draft him, and as awesome as he is, a mistake to keep him until they had a QB and OL that could use him.
Their massive mistake was paying Daniel Jones $40 million a year when it was primarily Barkley that helped make him look good that year. That made no sense. If that was the owner forcing that decision on the GM, then I feel sorry for Schoen, as he really hasn't had a chance. They should have taken the 5th year option on Jones or at the very worst franchised him after that season (and not Barkley), and given Jones another year to prove his one good year was not a fluke. Instead they got roped into at least two more years of him.
Barkley is ridiculously good, but you can't build teams around RBs anymore, even him. The Giants have not fixed their OL (though it was looking better this year before injuries; they have zero depth). They absolutely must solve the OL and QB before they can worry about having someone like Barkley, as fun as he is to watch. Frankly, losing McKinney was probably even dumber for them than Barkley. Another casualty of their cap practices (as was Bradberry in 2022, and they really screwed him by not releasing him at the start of free agency).
