  • Eagles vs Broncos observations

Big loss and one that was earned by the Eagles. They either fix the pre snap stuff on offense or they will continue to loss games

    1. Hurts - Hard to play when you start at the 9 yard line a bunch, are consistently in 1st and 15 1st and 20 because your fellow players can't get set. Still no turnovers, he took some absolute dumb sacks, he has to have his time in his head to either run or pass and he was late as heck on that today. Overall he was not even close to the reason why they lost.

    2. AJ Brown - Two huge penalties and he stopped running on a route that should have been a TD. Terrible game by him and I better not hear a peep of crying.

    3. Barkley - Nice play on the TD on the wheel route. Terrible otherwise. Not cutting back his runs, his blocking is a problem. He needs to step up his game

    4. Fangio - Horrible game plan against this team. They love to dink and dunk and run the ball. Pull up your safeties and make Nix beat you. Instead he dinked and dunked and waited for your team to commit bone head penalties. Your never going to get sacks by having that outlet guy wide open every time. Its like taking Candy from a baby. I don't know how many times the Broncos converted long yardage on 3rd down today but it was too much. He needs to go back to the drawling board I don't care about how they started the game BTW. This was a game the defense had to win, they were playing a better defense then their but an offense not as good. They let up way too many easy passes and to me they are more at fault for losing that the offense but its close.

    5. Officiating - I thought the officials in the game called it OK. Should have been a penalty at the end when they tackled Goedert but unless you are team playing the Eagles, you never get that call. The problem came when they went to replay. The replay guy must have been playing madden because he was clueless. The picking up of the Flag on that grounding cost them the game. That was grounding and it wasn't even close. The player was 10 yards off where the ball was and it was not even in his direction. It was a pure throw away and it has to be called correctly. Nix fumbled the ball his hand was still behind his head when the ball came out, not sure how it can be coming forward if it was behind his head. Dotson caught the pass to. First foot was down when he caught it, next foot in, third foot out of bounds. Again replay reversed a call without evidence.

    6. Special Teams - Either they are Great or horrible no in between. Too many yards let up on returns, blocking didn't allow Dotson to get free but one time. Just not good.

    7. Mailata - Got his ass handed to him all game long. Gave up at least 3 sacks. He couldn't hold his own. Now I know Dickerson once again went out hurt and he may have been trying to cover some for Toth but he got handled like I have never seen him get handled.

Overall this is a horrible loss. Way too many mistakes for a team in week 5. This team is at a cross roads. If they don't clean up the mistakes they are going to find themselves losing to more teams like the Broncos who have nothing to lose. This is why its so hard to repeat. Especially when you lose your offensive coordinator every year.

The only saving grace here is it is an AFC loss: those are the least impactful loss. Maybe this will wake them up but why do I feel like we are heading to
    4-3.
You know Darren if you'd have told me 10 years ago that someday I was going to solve the world's energy problems I'd have said your crazy.... now lets drop this big ball of oil out the window.

I have to agree the birds lost this game. They had chances early and they went missing for a half like every other game. The game should've been put away on the Brown overthrow/slow down. I can see them picking up the grounding flag even though it absolutely was grounding. Trait man wasn’t coming back to the QB he was headed to the sideline in his route. And Goedert was definitely mauled at the two yard line.
I don’t like Payton AT ALL but I have to say the 2 pt conversion was both gutsy and brilliant. If Sirianni is a great guru with players he better pull out his hole card and get them in line. This was a better performance but definitely not up to their talent level.
Wait until next year is a terrible philosophy
      Hope is not a strategy

Went back and looked at the penalties again. The grounding flag wasn't picked up they used replay assist. Which they are not allowed to do for player in the area only for the ball reaching the line of scrimmage (which it barely did) . The call was no player in the area and there was not in my opinion anyone within 10 yards of the ball and it wasn't even in the player who they said was closes direction. Nix panic threw the ball away to avoid the sack. It was monumental f up by the officials.

The Nix one was clearly a fumble, his arm was still behind his head and empty hand coming forward, even slowing it down it wasn't particularly close.

The Dotson one was close. The official who was closest to the play correctly ruled it a catch. The official 10 yards away (BTW the one who threw the flag on Baun and missed the interference on Goedert) overruled him. Not sure how. So replay stood with the incorrect call on the field. It was a catch pure and simple.

Those three plays resulted in six points for the Broncos and..... cost the Eagles at least 3 points on the Dotson one. That is a 9 point swing in a 4 points game.

Also I am seeing everyone wanted Patullo fired. I don't know if he is a good coordinator or not. I do know they had six pre snap penalties today which put them behind the sticks and killed all but one of the drives. AJ Brown had two of them. Plus the slow down on the deep ball. I think its time to start to bench guys no matter what their pay grade it. Its obvious their penalties problem is not going away. Some of this is losing their edge. Might be time to put some backups in there for a few series. Why you say. they are hungry and will pay attention to detail. Maybe it fires up an AJ Brown if he gets benched or a Barkley etc.

Also if you like offensive line play don't watch any of the tape from today. It was terrible. Either they are hobbled or there are other problems. Haven't heard the in Stoutland we trust lately and BTW he is the run game coordinator which is none existent.

Overall on the Patullo thing is the play calling vanilla because he can't call the more complicated things because they can't block it up, they can't even get set. I mean we hear motion motion motion. They got two penalties today for illegal motion. Sometimes its the players and not always the coaches. Patullo brought out some different things today. He tried to get the ball deep, the little waggle to Goedert was open all day. the wheel route as the check for Hurts etc.

Crossroads and on a short week is not good. I think the Giants beat us this week. There defensive line is every bit as good as the Broncos and our offensive line is not playing anywhere near its capabilities.

No way the Giants beat us. They lost to an 0-4 Saints team.

giants are a good get right game.

after watching LAC all game, they are such garbage and can’t protect Herbert. So that win the giants had against the chargers isn’t that impressive. LAC blew their wad against the chiefs in week 1.

Yeah, if they can't beat the Giants without Malik Nabers, they are in BIG trouble. I think they have the Giants for 2 out of the next 3 games. No excuses.

              Anyone watch the Bills game?

Bills coming into the game looked unstoppable
and they are right with us at 4-1.

im not too upset about us losing today. aAFC team that won’t affect our standings. Let’s move on and beat the Giants. If we lose to them, fire Patullo.

How about Denver played a great game? We probably would have won if Barkley got set on the long pass that we completed to AJ that got called back for an illegal shift and the late by Baun was a killer too. Losing Dickerson was a major blow too. It's almost impossible to win a game in the NFL these days when you only score 17 points. I thought our OC called the great game today with quite a few Imaginative plays. The most concerning problem we have is that the injuries are mounting up and that is something that you just can't control. There are a lot of good teams in the NFC and most likely the one that stays the healthiest is going to win the whole thing.

We've gotten spoiled by offensive line play over the last few years, to a point where I think we kind of take it for granted. They are not playing well. Dickerson hasn't been healthy since he got hurt in training camp. They've had guys in and out across the line. They are struggling, and it's definitely effecting the entire offense.

I totally agree about the pre snap penalties. You can't do that. It shows a lack of focus, or attention to detail.

A lot of this stuff has been apparent since week 1. They've been fortunate to win their games, but the chickens finally came home to roost.

I also agree that they are at a crossroads right now, and they are either going to right the ship this week, or they are going to continue to struggle with the same issues all season.

It was so frustrating to see the offense constantly get to the line with 5 secs or less on the play clock in the second half. Without the game clock running. I thought all last week they were going to fix that. When they get up there earlier they had some nice checks and plays. The whole offense just gets in these brutal ruts every game.

defensively I thought we played well all game. Nix got away w what I thought was a clear fumble and a second grounding. Outside of that, we gotta tip the cap. They made so many tough throws and catches. Some really contested and covered well.

will be interesting to see if this wakes them up. The talent is there. The execution is way off. Cannot lose to the Giants.

Denver did nothing special. They got the benefit of three replay calls that changed the momentum of the game. They simply were in the right place right time for Rodger and his band of officiating morons.

It wasn't Barkley it was AJ who shuffled his feet (a no no for a WR on a RB motion route) and the completion was to Devonta on the other side of the field. Legit penalty and it was on AJ. AJ also gave up on a route when the ball was in the air that was a TD knocked the ball out of Devonta hands on the hell marry (which he would have caught and almost still did). Cost the team 17 points today. His head is not in it, he is running too many lazy routes. He is causing more harm than good right now. Bench him to start the game against the Giants and put Metchie out there. See if that gets his head in it. I still love AJ but sometimes star players need a little grounding if you know what I mean.

You are correct about the offensive line. Losing Dickerson hurts but lets face it Jurgens is a shell of himself. Mailaita looks to have lost strength because he is getting man handled. Lane is toughing through an injury but giving up too much pressure to. Steen might be our best lineman and he got caught too far down the field on another drive killer.

I thought Patullo did fine yesterday. I know a ton of casual fans will say its his fault but there is are way too many execution break downs. Patullo didn't shuffle his feet, Patullo didn't hold, Patullo wasn't 3 yards from the line on a pass play, Patullo didn't slow down on a TD throw. Could they have called more runs, sure they could have. But Denver never moved out of their box to stop the run. They trusted their corners to play man to man. They got burned a ton for it. My only complainant is it seems like it takes him a little long to get plays in. Now that was the same with Kellen Moore last year. They almost always were snapping the ball with 2-3 seconds on the clock.

I am more concerned about Fangio in the 4th quarter. He never went away from the shell coverage, and they paid for it. They only had one 3 and out all game. The Eagles offensive starting position 20, 17, 10, 14, 11, 5, 26, 9. Average starting point the 14 yard line. That is huge, now some of that is special teams and some of that is the lack of getting 3 and outs, teams punting from their own 40 often pin you inside the 20. By contrast the Broncos started at 31,31,19,20,41, 41,20,36,38,32. Average starting point 27.9. Not great but an extra 13 yard on every drive. With the kicking ball the way it is and regularly hitting 60 yarders. This is going to cause more issues going forward. Fangio has to tightened up the amount of yards they are giving up. Its a must. The Special teams has to find that middle ground they are either great (blocking punts/kicks) or terrible. They need more consistency. The gunners are getting killed.

Not sure you’re talking the same penalties. I’m pretty sure Barkley had one for not resetting for one second after two men moving. Devonta also had one for moving his feet after moving from left side of line to the right side and not coming set. Brown had a penalty but I don’t recall it.

That's the play I'm talking about. I don't care which ones fault it was but you get the drift of what I'm saying, it can't happen and it cost us. I'll just mention that if you are going to blame somebody Knocking a ball away from somebody else on a Hail Mary you are really stretching it-. That's why they call it a Hail Mary. Denver made a hell of a comeback in that 4th quarter and they deserve to win for it. Those replay calls were correct so I don't see why they Are considered a benefit.

60... the replay calls were not correct IMO. They were at best inconclusive so the call on the field should have stood. Seems to me like the Eagles are getting the raw end of the calls so far this year. But hey, we are 4-1. I'll let it slide.

Something tells me this team is on its way to 5-3 at the Bye Week which is NOT GOOD.

I was in the wilds of Clinton County Pennsylvania while the game was going on. I watched 1 half of the game so far. The penalties are killing the team on O and keeping the D on the field. I still think the line is hurting and they are not trapping/ pulling because of it.I think they are really missing that 12-14 yards per punt return that Covey brought to the table and they are about 20-25 in the hole in the KOR department. Every drive seems to start in the hole. They need to flop the field
We're looking for people that are fundamentally different,” vice president of player personnel Andy Weidl said Saturday night. “The love and passion for football, it's non-negotiable. They're caring, their character, they do the right thing persistently, and they have a relentless playing style that you can see on tape. The motor, it burns hot. You see them finishing plays. They have a team-first mentality. They're selfless individuals.
