  • Jamaal Jackson's brother was Killed

Eagles center Jamaal Jackson missed practice on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. The specific reason for the absence previously wasn’t known.

Sal Paolantonio of ESPN reports that Jackson’s brother was killed in Miami by a drunk driver on Sunday, and that Jackson has been excused for all activities leading up to the Week Three game against the Steelers.

Jackson knew about his brother’s condition before playing on Monday night against the Cowboys. Jackson then traveled to Florida with the blessing of the team, and has stayed there all week.

The funeral was held on Saturday, and Paolantonio reports that Jackson and several teammates attended. Though the identity of the other Eagles’ players isn’t known, it’s believed that one or more other starting offensive linemen made the trip.

As a result, the players who are with Jackson will miss meetings and other activities typically conducted on the day before a game. The player are expected to rejoin the team on Saturday night or Sunday morning.

Jackson is expected to start against the Steelers.

***He played the Cowboys' game with a heavy heart, he get a pass from me for a while. I can't imagine playing the next day after losing an immediate family member. ***

Damn that sucks. Prayers go out to Jamal and his family. [-o<

I wander if Andrews was among the teammates, he's definitely got experience in this kind of thing.

Personally I think drunk drivers get off to easy and I'm all in favor of raising the penalties for DUIs. The fact that most people who get one DUI usually get multiples proves that the punishment isn't harsh enough. How is it that you can get 5 years in jail for just having pot, but driving drunk is just a fine?
Whatcha Gonna Do Brother, When the Eagles run wild on you?

I have an idiot former friend of mine (I no longer associate myself with him because he's such a loser), who miraculously only got one DUI in his life. He lost his license for a year, but when you go before the judge they will agree to reduce the sentence by as much as 6 months if you agree to put one of those devices in your car that you breathe into and it won't let you start the car if it detects enough alochol. The moron actually declined it, and took the 12 months without a license instead. Now what does THAT tell you? People who decline the reduced sentence may as well be locked up on the spot because they are essentially admitting that not only are they still going to drink and drive, they intend to do it without a license. Losers.

I couldn't agree more. A guy here in Vegas not too long ago had 11 DUI's. He went out and killed somebody for his 12th. Now how in the hell do you get 11 DUI's and STILL have a license and drive? POS.

My thoughts go out to the Jackson family. Just horrible.

Jamaal Jackson mourns death of brother

          BY THE INQUIRER STAFF

Eagles center Jamaal Jackson, who was away from the team all week for personal reasons, was in South Florida because his brother was killed by a drunk driver, ESPN reported.

Kamar Jackson, 29, a father of four, was killed when his car was crushed by another vehicle last Sunday. A Miami TV station reported that Miami Dade Police have charged Carlos Rodriguez with vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence of alcohol.

Jamaal Jackson reportedly knew of his brother's death but chose to play with the Eagles in their Monday night game against Dallas. He then flew to Miami to be with family members. Kamar Jackson's funeral was yesterday.

Eagles coach Andy Reid reportedly allowed several players to fly to Florida for the funeral and miss meetings at the team hotel last night. Jackson and the Eagles attending the funeral were expected to play today against Pittsburgh.

This from today's Inquirer. That is terrible. I feel for the poor guy. I don't think that I could have focused on my job if that had happened in my family.

This is really tragic. Can't believe this guy played the last two games with this at the forefront of his mind. My condolences to the Jackson family.

Re: Jamaal Jackson's brother was Killed

Seriously, how could he play yesterday after the funeral - let alone last week just after it happened? I give him a ton of credit - I don't think I could have done it. As fans we "live and die" for games, but they are after all, just sporting events. Losing your brother and playing in a game a couple of days later is going above and beyond. Prayers go out to him and his family, especially his brother's family - 4 kids now have to grow up without a Father thanks to a shithead who can't be bothered to call a cab. Toss him in jail for a very long time IMO!!

Thoughts and prayers are with Jamaal and his family. Jamaal thank you for playing Monday and Yesterday in such trying times. You are a better man than me because if I lost my brother I would have been a mess for a long time

Such a tragic and senseless loss. It is mind-boggling how one poor decision on one man's part can wreak havoc and long-term pain on the lives of many others. May The Lord comfort Mr. Jackson, his family and friends in their time of grief and may he rest Mr. Jamar Jackson's soul.
