  • My take on Yesterday's game

A win is a win no matter how you slice it. The Eagles came out rusty on offense but firing pretty good on defense. Overall they took care of business.

    Offense

    1. McNabb - so-so game. Was really off early. Everything he threw was high. That usually means with him is he was too strong. Didn't settle down until he started to run the ball. Made some nice throws throughout the game. The best throw in my mind was a play that didn't even count, that throw to Klecko was money and right on target he led Klecko perfectly.

    2. Westbrook - Best player on the team and he showed it yesterday. We need to find a way of wrapping him in plastic wrap so we can keep him on the field for 19 games a year (16 plus winning the superbowl)

    3. Offensive Line - good game. Run blocking was solid, pass blocking was OK. McNabb had more pressure than I would have liked especially early. They need to get lower on the goal line plays. Getting stuffed on that QB sneak down the goal line was on the online, They had zero surge.

    4. Desean Jackson - nice game in the pass game. Caught the ball well. On pace to catch 70+ balls as a rookie.

    5. Curtis - looks slow. But had a couple of nice catches

    6. Klecko - is looking more and more comfortable as the fullback. Flashed speed I didn't know he had when he caught the pass that was called back.

    Defense

D line - did a nice job against the run all game. Set up the linebackers to clean up things. Bunkley in particular did a real good job occupying the double team, he split it it a couple of times to setup stuffs in the backfield.

Bradley - was all over the field. Really had a good game

Samuel - this guy keeps showing why we gave him the money. He did give up a TD to Roddy WHite but things happen, it was a good route and a great throw to the goal post. But the way Samuel breaks on the ball its alsome. Nice INT.

Lito - real nice INT had a good game, got beat deep just before the INT and was called for interference (which it was)

Overall Akers didn't miss any field goals, Rocca punted OK, the special teams played well. The defense got back to stopping the run and thus gave up on ly 14 points. The offense put up almost 400 yards. Once they shook off the rust they started to roll. Westbrook is amazing.

Matt Ryan really impressed me in this game. The guy made some impossible throws. The first TD to White was threaded right through three defenders. I think there might be less than 5 passers in this league who can make that throw.

OH and I have to say this GO PHILLIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Were from Philly F in Philly no one likes us we DON'T CARE!

Re: My take on Yesterday's game

    Well Taz,

I've got about 100 takes on this game and team. First, I was ecstatic at the end of the half. McNabb had 3 key runs (1 for a TD, the Eagles had all 3 TOs left for the first time in the Bush administration, the Birds didn't give up a gimme field goal just before the half after they scored and forced a punt, and they put on a great drive for a last second field goal of their own. In short, they played perfect football the last 10 minutes of the half.

Atlanta has one hell of a team. The game should have gone down to the last play except for stupid challenge rules (college is so much better) that ended Atlanta's chances. I thought the Eagles played real good D on Atlanta's last TD. That was one hell of a play Atlanta ran for that TD.

The Birds need to find a way to run the ball in short yardage situations. Right now, it's just not in them. Even Donnie Mac kind of blew the QB sneak by just ducking down low and trying to drive in behind the line.

I agree that they should have gone for the TD on 4th down. Bad decision to kick the field goal. Even if you don't get the TD, you have that team pinned 99 yards away form your goal line and you don't have to kick off to them and give them a chance for a big play.

Do you think Atlanta knew Westbrook was going to get that little pitch play that almost cost us the game? Especially after we had showed it to them earlier in the game!

Re: My take on Yesterday's game

The goal line stuff is still a great concern. It was a problem all last year, and we thought it would be better this season......red zone offense is still an issue.

      Just some random thoughts....

LJ Smith made his finest play of the season on that sideline catch and effort to get to the marker. That was quality stuff, and it's flashes like that that make him so GD frustrating. He asctually did a little blocking yesterday, too. Perhaps he has been reading the boards and his critics? Whatever, just need to see more of that effort LJ. Oh, and F you Milloy!

Jon Runyan can still play. He was blamed for giving up a shot on Donny, but he was set up to defend a rusher and Klecko bounced him inside. I'm still real glad he's here, and don't think he's done.

Desean sure has the quicks, but another boneheaded play from the rook. Sharpen up, kid. Can't block worth a shit, either. ANd once again we see Donovan yelling at him about improvising when Donny was on the move.

The run plays they were giving Buck yesterday were so predictable, he had no chance. But I loved that pass to him playing the FB position. THat was beautiful. Bucky's hands have improved SO much, I'd like to see him getting more receptions out in the open. Great speed on that kid.

      Anyone seen Booker recently? LOL!

Curtis is going to be a nice addition once he gets his legs back.

Bunkley played a hell of a game, and Trent Cole has a motor that reminds me of a young Hugh Douglas.

hell yes. sometimes we are darn predictable. why no Klecko in there to at least get the D to think that maybe we will try to clear a path up the middle? I mean, the single back thing almost completely gave it away

I did love the play earlier in which Klecko cleaned up the middle and Westbrook bounced it outside. But that was all Westbrook. God that guy is awesome! We are a championship caliber team with him....we are average without him

          Thanks for the read Taz.

I doubt anyone will be too heartbroken, but I will be unable to do my game thoughts for this week as I only saw the 1st quarter and most of the 2nd due to a family obligation.

Westbrook might just be the MVP of the league. The Eagles are an entirely different football team when he's not in there.

Maybe. But this game was going down to the wire before that blown call. We could end up 6-10 this year. Then again, we could win the Super Bowl. Crazy huh?

Actually, I'd bet there were probably plenty of people that thought that before the beginning of the season---for a lot of teams.
Wait until next year is a terrible philosophy

You got that right. There are 10 teams with a record of 4-3 or better in the NFC. New Orleans is 4-4. The play off possibilities are nuts. Other than Detroit, who can you count out?
