This defense is going to be fun

With Fangio, the Eagles have definitely built a beast. Sure, there are concerns for safety depth and consistency at edge/pass rush. But generally speaking, I am optimistic that the defense will continue to perform at a high level.

(Excerpt)- Fangio has had good teachers. He worked under Steve Sidwell in New Orleans. Sidwell ran the 3-4 and helped the Saints have one of the best defenses in the league in his tenure. Dom Capers was also part of that staff. Capers left for Pittsburgh, where he ran the defense and really developed the zone blitz. Capers then became the head coach of the Panthers and later the Texans. Fangio was his DC in both spots. Fangio learned the zone blitz from a true expert. Later on Fangio became the LBs coach for the Ravens and DC Rex Ryan. Fangio learned about overload blitzes and complex coverages from Ryan. Fangio has been able to take all of these ideas and use them to develop his own scheme...

The Eagles use some complex coverages. They couldn’t do that successfully unless the players understood what was going on in great detail. Good communication is essential, between Fangio and his guys as well as between the players themselves.

Fangio is old school. He is a tough, demanding coach. That’s true for his assistants and his players.

I remember when Chris Mortensen first started appearing on ESPN and pointed out that zone blitz when Capers started doing it. Fanzio has definitely learned from some of the best and it's really showing. We've had some great defensive coordinators along the way including the Swamp Fox, Carson, and JJ.
 
I really hated seeing Blakenship walk but if there is a position I look to pay less on it is safety. I think the birds will be just fine at safety if Mukuba stays healthy.
 
I really think this D is going to be top 3, If they stay healthy they should take over games , taking pressure off the O and giving them time to click. If that happens, look out. I really think we have the best team in the NFL.
 
NoDak... I actually think there's a chance Blankenship was the weak link in the secondary. He was in the right place all the time but he wasn't a great athlete. To me, if Mukuba can stay healthy and DeJean can play the Blankenship position alongside our corners the base secondary is going to be even better. I think in nickel situations we could have a problem unless maybe they find a guy would can be a jack of all trades and they float DeJean back down into the nickel corner position on clear passing downs.

I also think that as long as the linebackers stay healthy we are going to be better there as well. And the front should be better too now that we have a better edge rusher. Don't get me wrong, Jaelen Phillips was good but I think Jonathan Greenard is going to be better. And he is going to get singled a lot.

For all of these reasons I think if the defense stays healthy we will have the top defense in the league.
 
I see what getting at AW and I agreed to a certain extent . Blankenship wasn't the best cover safety but he was one hell of a tackler.
 
He made a lot of big plays last year. There's a reason other teams wanted him. I'm not convinced he can be replaced so easily.
