  • Nah. I'm thinking about rolling up to St Augustine this weekend to get wet in some "northtern" waters, tho. If I stay local, I am going to take the Waverunner out down at the Sebastian Inlet.

Damn I love Florida. Nothing brings my spirits up faster than being outside in a Florida summer. Gotta keep these days in mind when I can't get out of bed for a stretch. I know dark days are going to come again...next week....but they won't last forever. I got knocked down so low after my second treatment that I never thought I would bounce back to this level. Should help me get thru my next round of chemo. The wild card is going to be when I start daily radiation in tandem with the chemo(assuming that is the route we go). I don't know how I will handle that. I don't know if I will get to have "good days" .

One thing I would like to note is that I was up to 172 friggin pounds this morning. Insane how quick I am putting the weight back on. It's probably somewhat bogus water weight and all, but that is 9 1/2 pounds in under a week. Pretty cool. I am setting my sights on 176 or better for next Monday, which would be 2 pounds more than when I started. Gonna freak those doctors out.

    • Good attitude Fresh. Both my In-Laws went through the chemo-radiation combo (and both are doing extremely well and are in remission so it really does work!!) My Father-In-Law said the radiation messed with him some but it wasn't 'illness' type reaction like the chemo, it was more like having to pee every 10 minutes (he was being treated for prostate cancer). Neither of them felt sick from the radiation, mostly just tired and run down. Hang in there buddy!!

      • Juk, what they tell me is that due to the area that they are going to have to treat with the radiation, it is going to greatly burn the inside of my esophagus, giving me strep throat X10, and making eating very painful and difficult. Combine that with what the chemo does to me and keeping weight on and getting strength back may become a real challenge. We'll see.

          • Gotta check on that. If I remember right, the doctor had told me that I wouldn't want to drink anything cold, that it would be like needles in my throat if I did......and I would only do it once.

            Evil shit, no?

                • Update time...

Got the result from my CT scan today, and the news is mixed. The good news is that my tumors have shrunk, significantly. One tumor shrank from almost 5cm down to 2.2 cm. The doc was VERY happy about this result. The bad news is I have pneumonia. Doc gave me a hard time about continuing to work and exposing myself to all of the public germs, etc. So I am being confined to the homefront for a few days while I rest up and take some antibiotics. Chemo treatment planned for Monday is being postponed for a week becaue they can't do it with me having the pneumonia. ANyway, that's where we are at.

                  • Get yourself a respirator mask for when you go outside. Sure you'll look like a total idiot, but that's gotta be better than the alternative.

                      • It's killing me, man. It is friggin beautiful out, and i wanna go play. Doc looked at me right before I left and said, "NO SURFING THIS WEEKEND". I can't go to the beach, can't go to the lakes, can't go out in public or be out in the sun..........just shoot me now. I went out and walked a mile this morning before the sun got strong, just around the neighborhood. Now I am just doing some work from my home office and plan on being a shut-in the rest of the day. That is not me, fellas. I know this time is going to come when I start the daily radiation treatments where my life really will seem like it's over.....all of the enjoyable stuff, anyway. But I don't want to be there until I have to be.

On a positive note....177 lbs today!

                        • Well Fresh that really doesn't sound like 'mixed' news at all - it sound like great news! You'll get over the pneumonia, hopefully in a few short weeks. But the fact that the tumors are shrinking is just about the best news you could get! Just two chemo treatments and one of the tumors is less than half of it's original size? I'm not all that familiar with this stuff, but that sure seems like outstanding news to me! As for being under house arrest, just deal with it for a while. Rent movies, spend a lot more time on SportsColumn, surf for porn (try looking for porn of WOMEN for a change!) and enjoy the reruns of classic shows on daytime TV. Go buy an elliptical if you feel the need to run everyday. See if Susi will give you permission to order hookers at the house... no wait you're trying to avoid diseases .... I guess you'll have to leave the hookers for Vin.

The bottom line is to just deal with being home bound for a while and get through this. You can surf your ass off for the next 40-50 years so try to remember that when "the crave for the wave" hits you.

                          • Fresh. Great News.

Stay inside. Remember, they are going after your immune system so in the past you may have been able to fight off a cold or flu bug but now that same immune system is pretty weak.

Do what they say man...that is fantastic news. Let the wife pamper you and watch some TV. Read a book. You are going to be around for a long time after this is over to get all that surfing in.
You know Darren if you'd have told me 10 years ago that someday I was going to solve the world's energy problems I'd have said your crazy.... now lets drop this big ball of oil out the window.

                            • Thanks guys.

Actually, I had a customer that really needed me to check on a job, so I just made a 3 hour round trip to Melbourne Beach to look into things. Susi was NOT happy with me. But i did it. And I looked at the surf while I was there, but kept my ass out of it. I promise to be good over the weeeknd.......

Haven't checked in for a few days. Good news with the shrinking tumor and the weight gain. Tough that you can't get out and enjoy the weather because of all the germ laden Floridians!

I always preferred the East coast because of the surf and I loved Sebastian Inlet area. Ended up buying on the West coast primarily because we really liked the friendly 'community' atmosphere of Indian Rocks Beach. Plus, there were some 20 bars and restaurants within walking distance.

I see your last post on this thread was on Friday at 3:55...a couple hours before the Asomugha bomb shell. We were visiting my daughter and her 4 yo was sitting with me on the couch at 6PM when I checked the PhillySports web site and read, "Eagles Land Asomugha". In total shock, I blurt out "What the f..!" but stop my self just in time. My grand daughter, who loves breaking my balls, shouts to her mom, "Mommy! Pop pop almost said the bad word!"

Anyhow, quite a weekend for Philly sports in general. I know you're not a Phillies' fan, but they had themselves quite a weekend as well.

Just read on PFT that Watkins has caved and signed. I'm a little disappointed in him for holding out. He was supposed to be so mature and grounded.

Hang in there my friend! And always remember...
