  • Haloti Ngata

I was watching this guy during last week's Ravens-Colts game. The Eagles were really unlucky to miss out on him by two spots in the 06 draft. What a dominant, dominant interior defensive lineman.

Other than Ed Reed, who is a God among men, Ngata was the best player on the field for the Ravens against the Colts last weekend, IMO.

Too damn bad for the Eagles. I recall how they were looking hard at Ngata and Bunkley before the draft that year. Bunkley is a good player, but he is not in Ngata's league.
Don't kid yourself Jimmy. If a cow ever got the chance, he'd kill you and everyone you cared about!

yeah, but he is a two gap DE in their system so that means he is basically asked to occupy a couple guys and allow the edge rush to get after it. i think we got the right guy for our scheme in that draft in bunkley who is more of a get in the gap and get upfield type. ngata is very good but I think bunkley is too. it is a push to me.
You know Darren if you'd have told me 10 years ago that someday I was going to solve the world's energy problems I'd have said your crazy.... now lets drop this big ball of oil out the window.

AW, with all due respect you have to watch more Ravens games if you think that's all Ngata does. The guy is fast and relentless. He reminds me of Jerome in his prime.

I think he's the best d-tackle in the entire NFL. He is light years ahead of Bunkley. I'm not putting Bunk down, he's pretty good. But Ngata is a franchise player.

Gotta agree with LT here. I get to see many Ravens games and he is very very good at getting to the QB or at flushing the QB to someone else. He would have looked real good in green rather then that silly purple.

I remember Reid being asked which he liked better, Bunkley or Ngata. He said they were both great but for what the Eagles did Bunkley was the better pick. Then again, he had just drafted Bunkley. What's he going to say?

This is the guy 60, Ike and I wanted the Eagles to draft. He was supposed to come to Philly and eat children. But seriously gotta agree with LT the guy is one of if not the best DT in the NFL today.

I never really liked the Bunkley pick. Still don't.

I too hoped the Eagles would be able to select Ngata. I wasn't dissatisfied with the Bunkley selection though.

This also brings to mind the selection of Deuce McAllister (who is retiring) by the Saints ahead of the Eagles when they had Ricky Williams on the roster.

Ngata, as AW said, is an ideal two-gap DT who would still be very effective in the Eagles scheme. Bunkley was the top-rated one-gap DT if I recall correctly and that's why I wasn't too disappointed about his selection.

check out this vid of Ngata absolutely destroying Stacy Andrews in the first play from scrimmage in 2008. What a monster. He might be my favorite non-Eagle in the NFL right now.

I haven't seen anyone bitchslap a 330lb+ guy around like that since Reggie played in Philly.I called for Ngata ,but Bunk is a good fit here also, not the worst move the Birds ever made. Maybe they can get him as a FA someday.
We're looking for people that are fundamentally different,” vice president of player personnel Andy Weidl said Saturday night. “The love and passion for football, it's non-negotiable. They're caring, their character, they do the right thing persistently, and they have a relentless playing style that you can see on tape. The motor, it burns hot. You see them finishing plays. They have a team-first mentality. They're selfless individuals.

Ngata was the guy I wanted the Eagles to move up to pick.
We ended up with Bunkley, who is pretty good but nowhere near the force as Ngata.

Even a simple-minded talent evaluator like me could see the
huge upside potential of Ngata. He was and is a very strong large man
and there aren't that many guys around on the planet, to paraphrase
Parcells. The Eagles defensive approach did not lead us to make a strong push for the superior player, kind of similar to the approach with the WRs
                    until last year.

Too bad, at present our DTs are OK but kind of small except for Dixon. And a large OL like Dallas has shown they can physically dominate us up front because of the size-strength advantage. Time to draft a big DL and a big-hitting S.

That is true Blitz... except I have no issue with Bunkley. I wish he would get more sacks though...

I think if they actually left Bunk in on third down or split him out wide every once in a while, he'd get more sacks. Hard to be a pass rush guy when you are only playing first and second downs.

I think McD has to re-think that whole bring in the four DE's on third down and move Howard inside thing for next year. Worked well two years ago, but Howard was not as big of a presence last year and it got predictable, IMO.

Just because he's not Ngata doesn't mean Bunk isn't a force in his own right. He consistently pulls the double-teams -- that's a sign of respect. He should be on the field more, IMO.
