I typically get to work around 6:30 most mornings. Today it was pouring when I left so I went out the garage and drove to work. Around 10:30 my wife calls and asks if the power was out when I left because it was out when she got up. She called the electric company and was told that while there are literally hundreds of outages in our area, no one else in our neighborhood had called to report a problem. That means that we get the lowest priority for a service call. She gave us an estimate of 5 AM tomorrow for a repair. Later in the day it went to 3:00 PM, then 5:00 and then 6:00 PM tomorrow. As of right now it looks like we'll be without power until sometime after 3AM on Wednesday!! What a frigging pain in the ass! I guess we'll be restocking the freezer this week. Well, there goes a few hundred bucks, literally in the trash!!!

I try to tell everyone I know. The electric companies WANT you to call in when you are out of power. You are NOT being a pain-in-the-rear by calling. It's only going to help us to prioritize which areas to fix first. And in some cases where the device that interrupted the power might not be automated, your calling in may be the only way we know you're out of power.
And what it sounds like above, if only ONE person calls in, the computer simulation models might predict that the service to that ONE person's house is down, instead of reality which might be that the entire neighborhood is out of power.

It turned out that the entire neighborhood was out. They had the power back on by 8:00 before it went off again at 8:10. This continued for a little while but it came back on for good around 11:00. All in all, not too bad. But hearing someone tell you that they can't get to you for 2 full days is pretty aggravating! My brother is an emergency tech for Peco so he's right on the front lines when storms like this come through. I talked to him an hour ago and he was just getting home after 30 straight hours. Pretty grueling way to start a week!!Official Driver of the Eagles Bandwagon!!!
