Not really surprised, but it still saddens me to read it. Good luck Westy...retire while you still can think clearly, for your own sake!

I was really hoping the Eagles would bring him back at a lower rate once he "tests the waters", but from what I've heard it sounds like they've said their goodbyes. It's a sad day for sure!!

Believe it or not, guys like Trent Cole are now among the longest-tenured players on the team.
The transition initiated in 2005 is almost fully complete...

That was Shawn's rookie year if I remember correctly when he got injured in his first/second start

McNabb will probably be gone either this year or next

Brown may need to slide back to S to extend his career longer; if he stays at CB I see him replaced in the next 2 years

I think Akers is ok for a while, hard to get a great kicker

Mikell is a really interesting case...earned his stripes as a starter after paying his dues, but S could see an overhaul soon

Otherwise, we have a young roster seemingly poised to continue keeping the window open
Eliminate distractions, create energy, fear nothing, and attack everything.

I really like the idea of signing Chester The Molester.

I'm also iffy about Peppers asking for Haynesworth money ... ie. $41M guaranteed.

Brian Westbrook really made that team go in 2004. He was at the height of his game and the Eagles used him perfectly. One of my all time favorite Eagles and easily my favorite on offense.

Guy's career was like a Super Nova. It burned incredibly bright but only for a short time. He really only had 4 years as an elite feature back. ('04, '05, '06, and '07).
Whatcha Gonna Do Brother, When the Eagles run wild on you?

I pretty much agree with the majority here... very sad day for Eagle fans, but it was the right move. He is done.

A sad day. A very sad day!

In his all too short prime he was as as dangerous and as hard to defense as any back in the league.

Unfortunately for Brian and for us, his body gave out long before his heart.

                    Just a question......

Does this, in anyone's mind, increase the chances that the Eagles value keeping Donovan here? Last season we lost a significant leader on defense, and the unit faltered. Now, you lose a guy that Andy claims was so valuable as a leader for this offense.

It just occured to me as I watched Reid's presser and he was asked about the loss of leadership, and he pointed out that Donovan was still here....

Fresh, this is a celebration of Westbrook's career thread, not a bring down everyone (or maybe just me) thread.

Sorry to see Brian go but for his sake I hope he decides to retire. For the last couple of years he's been participating in the classes the NFL holds through Penn's Wharton school. He should be ready to move on to "the real world" without any problems and after two concussions this year I hope that's the case.Besides,he's a 'Nova Grad so he's good to go.
BTW John Clayton today was talking about the only possible suitor for Westy might be the Vikes.Chester Taylor's getting released,Childress knows Westy very well,& AP could use a guy like Brian for 6-8 plays a game.Birds could pick up Taylor,Westy plays for Minny & possibly could be teaming up with McNabb once again.Holy turnabouts Batman!
Personally,I'd love to see Brian retire TODAY & then retire as an Eagle.
Thanks for all the memories #36!
Just give me ONE before I go!

Westy in Minnesota makes sense. He could be a nice change of pace from Peterson.

Indeed! Westy actually hangs on to the ball.
