Jags lose defensive end for the season

In two days, two NFL players have suffered season-ending injuries. On Sunday, Steelers receiver Limas Sweed tore an Achilles tendon. On Monday, Jaguars defensive end Bryan Smith tore an ACL.

The team's official Twitter feed indicates Smith will miss the entire 2010 season.

Smith spent his first NFL season with the Eagles in 2008. Last year with the Jaguars, he appeared in six games, starting two of them.

Bryan Smith is the typical Andy Reid gamble at DE. Trent Cole worked - Bryan Smith did not.

This year he has 2 gambles in Teo and Sapp. Let's see what happens.

Statistically speaking every pick at DE is a gamble. I heard on WIP right after the draft that the first round bust rate for DEs was about 50%.
