  • Anyone Going to the Game in Jacksonville?

Is anyone here going to the game in Jacksonville? My son and I, and two of his friends, are going to be there. It would be good to hook up with some fellow fans before the game, so we can get some Eagles chants going.

We are staying at the Crowne Plaza near the airport. I arrive around noon on Saturday.
I'll PM you with our seat locations and my cell. It would be a pleasure to meet you and the Mrs.!

Very cool. THis will be our first time at that stadium. My wife and I are going to be staying with a buddy in St Augustine who used to have Jax season tickets. He is going to forward to me a good place to tailgate. I think he said parking lot K was one where visiting teams fans usually congregate.

Just expect that my wife and I will be getting tore up from the floor up!

            Stock,

If I count correctly, with your four guys plus Fresh and his wife, that totals 6 Birds' fans.

So, even if no other Eagle supporters show, you guys will outnumber the Jag fans about 2 to 1.

(Psssst! Please confirm that the person with Fresh is really his wife and not a cute blond from the Cigar Club in drag.)

Just got back in, tired as hell from a 3 hour ride home after the game. But it was great . Got to meet up with Stock, who was very cool. Snapped some pics, drank some booze, and won a balllgame. What more do you want??

I tell ya, it was like a home-away-from-home game with all of the Eagles fans there. TONS of them. The Jags fans with their unkind chants directed towards Vick were the only A-holes present. Great time, I'll rehash more tomorrow. It's late and I'm tuckered.

I thought that was Dallas? You know they make everything big in Texas and Dallas is too big of an asshole for just one state!

Yeah, there were some real pricks there. 3 dudes aparently cut in front of my wife in the concession line(I didn't see where they came from, but my wife starts yelling at them "What the hell, I'm in line here!") One of the D-bags sees our jerseys and says, "You're rooting for the wrong team." I responded, "I think we're rooting for the RIGHT team, scoreboard, bitch!" (This was at half time.)

And then you have guys walking about chanting "Vick's a dick", and "hide your beagle, Vick's an Eagle" and all sorts of other nonsense I can't remember. I could have done without all of that. But I met up with Stock and his boys at one of the parking lots where there were hundreds of Eagles fans partying it up pre-game. They had an Eagle friendly band playing in the lot, and starting up Eagles chants and rallying the troups. We finished up our drinks and headed into the stadium. My wife was half lit on grain Kool-aid, and we had great seats about 10 rows off the field...right behind Ernie Sims family. His parents were really cool, friendly, and clearly very proud of their boy.

The Jag's fans chants gradually faded to a dull murmur as the game went on. In the fourth quarter, I looked around and see the continuing exodus of teal colored jerseys pourign out of the stadium. The stands are now about a 1/3rd full......and it's predominantly green jerseys. The Eagles fans stayed to the final whistle to enjoy another E A G L E S chant or two. Spadaro came around snapping pictures of the sea of green and drew a roar from the remaining fans at the 2 minute warning. The A-hole Jags fans are all gone at this point and it was just a stadium of brotherly love. We took that place over and had a great time. End of story....

I'll reserve comments about the actual game on the field for other threads.

I had a buddy in college who was a Jags fan and was extremely proud/obnoxious about it. I just sent him an email that read, "Tough game yesterday. Can I interest you in a barely used 2nd round QB."

First of all, I have to say that it was great meeting Fresh after all these (10?) years. He and his beautiful wife, Susi, are two of the nicest people you would ever want to meet (As if you didn't know that from they way Fresh good-naturedly puts up with all the "Cigar Club" ribbing that some (including me) have dished out on this board). Anyway, after seeing Fresh In The Flesh, I can testify that he is not "Cigar Club" material -- Anyone who has a cute wife like that, who converted from being a Redskins' fan to satisfy him, cannot be gay. Case closed! Fresh is the man!

Jacksonville seemed to be a shell of a city. We went out sporting our Eagles' jerseys on Saturday night, but there were very few people on the streets. The only human activity we saw was a Phillipino Festival at Jacksonville Landing, a shopping mall near the river. A few of the people we did meet while dining said "You guys are going to beat us tomorrow, because we are terrible!"

Anyway, my overall experience of Jaguars fans is a little different than Fresh's. I did meet a few dickheads waiting in line to enter the stadium. They kept tapping my shoulder from behind, until I confronted them. When I made fun of one of them for wearing Chanel sunglasses (which I thought might really be Cigar Club apparel), they started calling me "tube socks" because they thought that might avenge my comments. I guess a 60 year-old man is not supposed to wear white socks with sneakers in fashionable Jacksonville. Anyway, I dispatched them with a limp wrist wave "Goodbye, Chanel!" and entered the stadium.

We had great seats seven rows up in the corner of the endzone. One of Maclin's TD's came directly at us, and it was neat seeing him catch the ball and run into the endzone right in front of us.

The Jacksonville fans near us were mostly friendly, but my son and his friends did receive some taunts - which they probably deserved, because they may have been celebrating a little too much for enemy fans. The gentlemen near me were very nice and spent much of the afternoon lamenting the fact that their QB sucked.

I thought it was cool that the Jag fans did have their own chant of "Move those chains, move those chains, move!" after they attained a first down. I also thought that it was a good stadium for watching a game. It seemed that every seat had a good view.

The half-time display of six parachutists attempting to land within the stadium was truly amazing. Five of the six successfully landed on the field. I don't know what happened to the sixth parachutist. Unfortunately, I was unable to capture the display because my camera ran out of battery power; but it was awesome watching them descend on target from far in the sky.

Fresh correctly described how Eagles' fans took over the stadium in the closing minutes. "Eagles" chants resounded throughout the stadium and on the long walk back to the parking lots.

Luckily, we mostly missed the rain and thunderstorms which seemed to encircle the city of Jacksonville after the game. Overall,it was a great day. But, Jacksonville is one of those places that might be okay to visit, but you wouldn't want to live there or be a fan of their team!

Stock, the sixth 'chutist lost his main parachute and had to deploy his emergency chute. He landed on the Jaguars' practice field.
