  • Juan Castillo under consideration for Browns' OC job

Not good. Per Tony Grossi on Twitter via RotoWorld...

Eagles OL coach Juan Castillo is reportedly under consideration for the Browns' offensive coordinator job.

Castillo is regarded as one of the top line coaches in football, and is also interested in moving up the latter. He has history with new Browns coach Pat Shurmur dating back to Shurmur's days as the Eagles' QBs coach.

The Browns are starting to annoy me.
Don't kid yourself Jimmy. If a cow ever got the chance, he'd kill you and everyone you cared about!

Wonder if the Browns would consider anyone else NOT on the eagles payroll! Or if Castillo bolts, could Washburn talk his buddy Mudd into un-retiring and coming in to coach the OL?

only if you know how to spell.

Also, if you notice, a lot of sportswriters write "could of".

          wtf?

I think it's pretty rare for an offensive line coach to be named an OC. I'd say he's staying put. Even Reid didn't consider him. Come to think of it, who would want Reid as their OC?

It's fine spelling if spell-check doesn't complain ... and since "latter" is a word ... well, you know. Our vaunted educational system at work.

If Castillo goes, we should try to coax Howard Mudd out of retirement. He is good friends w/our new DL coach Washburn and a terrific OL coach (w/Indy). He might like a chance to work w/his buddy.

                      Per RotoWorld...

A source tells the Philadelphia Inquirer & Daily News that the Browns have not asked the Eagles for permission to speak with OL coach Juan Castillo.

Tony Grossi of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reported Friday that Castillo was under consideration for the Browns' offensive coordinator job. Castillo -- regarded as one of the top line coaches in football -- makes a lot of sense for the Browns given his history with new coach Pat Shurmur. Look for the Browns to ask for permission sometime in the coming days.

Per the Cleveland Plain-Dealer via RotoWorld...

Eagles OL coach Juan Castillo is reportedly no longer a candidate for the Browns' vacant offensive coordinator position.

The Browns also have yet to schedule an interview with former Miami (FL) OC Mark Whipple, though it seems likely one will be set up at some point. The Browns would like to make a hire before the end of the week, but head coach Pat Shurmur's intent to call plays has made the job lose its luster.

This may be a stupid question, but it won't be the first one I've ever asked.

If Castillo is such a genius at developing O line talent, why has the Birds' Oline sucked ass for the last 2 years?

The guys Castillo has actually developed have improved dramatically under Castillo's tutelege (Justice, Dunlap, McGlynn,etc.). It's the high priced established vets that fouled up the works (Peters, Andrews brothers).
