I have to think that these CB signings mean that the Eagles are fed up with Samuels. He's not in camp for "personnal" reasons. Didn't he miss a week of OTAs last year with the same crap? I think that he gets dealt somewhere and frees up some cash that they'll need for DJ and Watkins. If he is moved, I hope it's for a player.

Look at the CBs the Eagles added Asomungha is the classiest guy this franchise has had since Troy Vincent. This Cromartie kid is said to be high character. Samuels is kind of a punk. The writing is on the wall.

I agree Samuel gets moved, and I think it'll be for a player. My guess is a LB, b/c FO knows it needs some leadership and experience in the LB corps. Wouldn't be surprised to see Chaney stay in the middle and a good backer coming here via trade. There was clearly some tension with AS in years past b/c of his style of play ... McDermott wanted him to press more whereas AS likes to sit back and play for the pick.

If they trade Samuel for a pick ... it's just a great move. They always say you build through the draft ... and history shows that free agency winners rarely translate into super bowl winners.

But to potentially flip Asante for Nnamdi, and get a draft pick in return? That's such a common sense move that it's genius.

When you put it that way it sounds great fly! But I'd love to trade for a LB.

Certainly could happen. Given the press conference (online at pe.com) it did sound like the Eagles were never sure the Asomugha thing was going to happen near the end, so they may not have completely planned for this.

Not sure they will be able to work through a Vincent/Taylor/Harris situation and keep all three, or if it will be more like Samuel/Brown/Sheppard where Lito basically disappeared.

It's also a lot of dollars (well, not DRC), and while they are still under the cap, they may need the $6 million they'd save by moving Samuel to have money for DJax etc. Signing Vick long-term could actually save money on this year's cap, as he's currently taking up over 16 million and presumably a longer contract would not cost quite as much this year, and could lower the number.

Has anyone seen any talk about where we are with the cap after all this? I think there is actually a "soft cap" provision for this year... the cap is $120 million and change, but I think there are three $1 million exemptions for 4+ year veterans you can use, or something like that. We could get a couple vets that way later on. But really, DJax is the biggest issue right now it seems.

Samuel may have some warts (not many though), but he is a winner and has helped our team alot during his time here. I certainly would NOT give him away and I would need more than a draft pick. He is elite and his play has not slipped.

Absolutely VFK -- you don't trade him unless you're getting a great offer. It sounds like they have space to keep all 3 guys for at least this season (and probably next).

Yes, and there is a provision for them to borrow cap space from future years if that even becomes necessary. no way do I think we are in a position where we HAVE to trade Samuel. And honestly, even tho I have never been a big fan of Asante's "personality", he is a blue chip player, and you don't let him go without a significant return.

Bird fans have never taken Asante to their hearts as a 'real Eagle', because he's both a bit of a prima donna and he tends to avoid contact. Having said that, as you point out VFK, the guy has often come up big, with key picks and run backs on several occasions, not to mention the solid play we have come to take for granted.
