I would say that if any coach in football went 16-16 with the roster that the Eagles will have had for last year and this year that he would no longer keep the job that he has. If that is putting a guy on the spot, then so be it. Do you really think Reid will be happy woth an 8-8 season. Come on MD. It's like asking somebody if they would be happy scheduling a beach vacation with 7 days of rain.

All I ask is show me another team owner --- before a season starts-- say this about his coaches future?
Fresh you have a boss -- what if he called you into his office and told you " Hey, you don't hit quota of X this year, no new contract for you" --- then he calls a full office meeting and in that meeting he tells everyone on the job that your job is on the line if you don't hit your x quota?
I'm done, that's me opinion and sorry if no one else sees it that way. I'm used to it here.

Sorry to jump back in... but to clarify-- here are the headlines and a quote from the NFL Official site with "around the league" news.
Andy Reid needs better than 8-8 to keep job, Lurie says
Lurie said at a news conference "8-8 would not" be good enough for Reid to return as head coach in 2013.
"We need substantial improvement," Lurie said compared to last year's record. "We have a very good team on paper."
Consider the gauntlet thrown down. This puts a lot of pressure on Reid, but Lurie didn't say anything that we didn't already know. Lurie just said it in a nice quotable way that will be featured in Friday's newspaper and then repeated all season long. It could go down as unnecessary a quote as Vince Young's "Dream Team" missive.
//////////////////////////////////////
Yeah, this won't be a season long distraction every time they lose a game.
Still waiting for someone to show me another quote/story from a team owner --- BEFORE the season even starts --- that comes close to this public display of "unnecessary".
PS and BTW --- This is the official league site -- any body care to imagine what the Philly media will be like as soon as they lose a game or 2? Should be like chumming for sharks.Last edited by MDFAN; 09-02-2012, 10:21 PM.

I'm not buying this as a real ultimatum or a message to Andy.
Most of the Andy haters wanted him gone the same years we went to the superbowl and 4 other NFCCGs. So, an owner, who everyone knows WILL NOT FIRE Andy unless he sees real regression, says "failure is 8-8." Are you serious??? LOLOLOL. For real fans, failure this year is not getting to the superbowl. But we can win 9 games and go out in the second round of the playoffs and Andy's job is safe??? The use of 8-8 is such a low standard that real fans should be outraged he didn't say a deep playoff run.
But, Saying 8-8 served its purpose. It just took care of all of the negative nit-wits for most of the season. They wont be writing about what is going to happen to Andy, because this team wont come close to looking like or being an 8-8 season. If they do, Andy will likely step down himself, because 8-8 with this team is like 2-14. I've told friends that this will be Andy's last year, whether he wins the superbowl or not. But it wont be from going 8-8 or worse. It will be from Andy just not having that fire anymore and if he wins it, he'll go out a champ and any failure of a superbowl tells him he just can't do it.
The only message publicly from Jeffrey to Andy is, "No more teams that are built for the long haul...win it all now." Oh and for the Andy haters, "I'm in charge and here is my expectation of the guy so many of you wrongly hate, (which is a joke for this team)."Pedro

I see MD's point about answering the queston another way. But then again, if he answered it another way the press still could have found a way to twist it into a story. Look how many times the New York press had Coughlin fired last year. Just the nature of the business. Eat, or be eaten."Hey Giants, who's your Daddy?"

I don't understand being up in arms about the timing of this. It's basically the same regurgitated stuff from the end of last season. 8-8 was unacceptable then, and it still is. Jeffy is consistent in his message. I think many of us were concerned that he might weaken in his conviction. He has not.http://shop.cafepress.com/content/global/img/spacer.gifOK, let's try this again...

Andy Reid is probably not bothered one bit by Lurie's comments. First, Lurie has probably expressed the same thing to him (probably in harsher terms) privately. Secondly, Reid will not be affected one way or the other by the press.
Reid has been in Philly for 13 years, has faced the pressure numerous times, and appears to not really care what the press says about him."Nobody in football should be called a genius. A genius is a guy like Norman Einstein." - Joe Theismann
