  • (OT) Stan Musial dead at 92.

I saw Musial play many times at Shibe Park and only saw Williams play a couple times. They were, IMO, the best hitters baseball has ever seen.

Musial was uncanny in that no pitcher ever made him look bad. He wasn't the long ball hitter Ted was, but all he did was hit ropes. He was also a very decent human being...the best loved of all the Cardinals.

    RIP Stan The Man.

How bout it. Stan The Man was a great ballplayer & a Class guy. I saw him play a few times at Connie Mack(funny you say Shibe Park Tino. My folks always called it Shibe as well. Man, you must be frickin OLD!, lol)
    RIP Stan Musial.
Just give me ONE before I go!

Hey guys what were the silent movies like ? Bunch of old fucks round here.
We're looking for people that are fundamentally different,” vice president of player personnel Andy Weidl said Saturday night. “The love and passion for football, it's non-negotiable. They're caring, their character, they do the right thing persistently, and they have a relentless playing style that you can see on tape. The motor, it burns hot. You see them finishing plays. They have a team-first mentality. They're selfless individuals.

I am as old as dirt with a mind to match. When I started going to games in 1949 it was Shibe Park and remained so to me for years after the name was officially changed to Connie Mack. Regardless of the name, it was a wonderful place to watch a ball game. You were so close to the players in the boxes on the first and third base sides, you could often hear the infielders talking to one another.

Musial seemed to always have a smile on his face. He was an established star by the time I started seeing him play. I hated the Cards but I liked Stan even though he just killed Phillie pitching. I knew I was watching something really special when I saw him hit. He was baseball royalty.

When I grew older I was not surprised to learn he was also a really fine man.

The only ball I ever got at a Phils game was at Connie Mack.
Wait until next year is a terrible philosophy
            Hope is not a strategy
            RIP

I always found him to be an overbearing know-it-all prick. It was either his way or the Red Sea.

Saqw him play many times also---- although not nearly as much as Tino --- after all I am younger than dirt at least.

Perhaps the National Leagues best pure hitters. The guy just hit line drives, so many for doubles. Just a sweet swing.

                  RIP Stan the Man!

RIP Stan. I never got to see you play (several decades short of that) but the stats you posted speak of the player you were. Condolences to those who remain.

I would have thought he had been dead already for 20 years. Is Joe Dimagio still alive?

I remember seeing Stan the Man at Connie Mack stadium as a kid. The guy was built like a truck, and was a pretty modest guy at that. He was a genuine role model by all accounts.

MM, the only nasty guy that I ever remember was Bob Gibson. He would knock you down just for the hell of it. Hitters were afraid to face him. He was a mean bastard.

Joe passed away quite a few years ago.
