  • And here I thought Jones-Drew was one of the few good guys

    From the Redzone:

Attorney of security guard speaks out against Maurice Jones-Drew

Although Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew has yet to be charged stemming from an incident at the Conch House Restaurant Sunday night, the attorney for the security officer who told police Jones-Drew punched him has spoken out, Ryan O'Halloran of the Florida Times-Union reports.

In a press release emailed to the Times-Union on Thursday, Gregory Anderson said his client, Kasim Howard, was “viciously attacked and severely injured,” during the incident with Jones-Drew.

    The statement in full reads:

“This past Sunday, May 26 during Reggae Sunday at the Conch House Marina Resort, Jacksonville Jaguars [player] Maurice Jones-Drew viciously attacked and severely injured Conch House’s security officer, Kasim Howard, 31, of St. Augustine. At the time Mr. Jones-Drew attacked him, Mr. Howard was attempting to protect several female patrons from harassment by members of Mr. Jones-Drew’s entourage. Prior to the attack, Mr. Howard never saw, spoke with, let alone confronted Mr. Jones-Drew. Conch House security video captures Mr. Jones-Drew rapidly approaching Mr. Howard from the back-left side and sucker punching him in the jaw. As a result of this attack, Mr. Howard suffered a dislocated jaw and spinal injuries. He was hospitalized, later released and is recovering at home.

“The current attempts by some to characterize this as a ‘scuffle’ are misleading and unsupported by any evidence. Any fair-minded person watching the video has to conclude that Mr. Jones-Drew initiated an unprovoked attack on Mr. Howard and then literally ran away from the scene. The videos, in addition to virtually all eyewitness accounts, unequivocally prove that Mr. Jones-Drew attacked the security officer without provocation. We are evaluating the remedies available to Mr. Howard, who conducted himself professionally. Mr. Jones-Drew’s conduct was deplorable and certainly unbecoming a professional athlete. Those attempting to sanitize this incident are either uninformed or motivated by reasons other than justice.”

Clearly MJD is still a douchebag in this incident, the statement conveniently leaves out the fact that the police report spells out that the security gaurd had one of MJD's friends in a head-lock. So while that still is no excuse for MJD to sucker-puck the security guard in the jaw, it's not like MJD just walked up to a guy and punched him out of the blue as the statement suggests.

Here's a simple rule change that will help stop these incidents. Any player in the league who is arrested for a violent crime or a DUI can not play - and will not be paid - until all pending litigation is settled. Get arrested for a violent crime or DUI and you sit out until the case is resolved or the charges dropped. Sure the Union will fight this but so what? It's for the well-being of the league and honestly of these idiots can't figure out that they need to stay out of trouble to keep their job, then they don't deserve the job in the first place. If I got arrested you can bet your ass that I'd have a lot of explaining to do at work and if it was a violent crime? I'd be gone before lunch. If I'm ever convicted of a felony I lose my license and as a result my career. Maybe we need to start treating these players like adults and demand that they act accordingly. If they can't figure out how to stay out of jail then screw them.

Crazy, I know! Who would've thought!?!?!!!!

From the police report it sounds like one of MJD's douchebag friends kept hitting on some girls at a party. It sounds like he "touched" them, although it's unclear exactly what that means, but if he was "hitting on them" it probably means he put his arm around them, hand on the shoulder, whatever. The girls got annoyed. Security guard steps in. Words exchanged. Security guard puts the guy in a headlock. MJD sees one of his douchebag buddies in a scuffle, and jumps in.

Wrong, definitely. But the lawyer's version is a little "cleaned up" shall we say.

I've always thought this would be an excellent idea. But it makes too much sense for it to ever happen.

Back in the Day, I tended bar a couple summers at a late night music bar called the Dunes outside Somers Point. The bouncers there, and at other Somers Point joints like Bay Shores and Tony Marts, were summer jobs filled mostly by area college football players. These places catered to a young crowd. Mix booze and testosterone and the result was often guys trying out there best moves and/or 'beer muscles'. Most of the bouncers were decent guys but a few just looked for opportunities knock some heads of the guys who got out of line. I saw a few of these beat downs that seemed a bit excessive.

Is 'security guard' the new name for bouncers? I'd like to see the video of what went down.

Cincinnati would have a hard time putting a team on the field.

I did many a "pub crawl" starting out at Tony Marts (6 draft beers for a dollar) and end up at Dunes (Til Dawn). You walk out of the place and it's daylight! You're driving home & people are heading to work! Great memories that leave me shakin my head.

Like how did we ever survive? We don't get to the Jersey Shore much anymore but my wife and I did stay in Somers Point for a weekend several years ago...with Sweeney of course. Virtually all our old haunts, Tony Mart, Bay Shores and The Dunes were gone. The Anchorage was still there, but all the music bars that used to bring in really good talent were gone replaced by nothing worth mentioning.

There was a little bar/restaurant up on Shore Road where we used to get 10 drafts for a buck and that also had great bar food. That was still there 4 years ago when we visited but I just looked on Google Earth and it's been turned into a fucking shoe store. WTF is that about?

Where do guys in the Ocean City area go now in the summer to drink, listen to music and hustle pussy?
