These have been both the best of times and the worst of times for Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel. He won the Heisman Trophy in December and has found great celebrity on the talk-show circuit plus has been able to party his ass off in numerous jurisdictions. Manziel's behavior has come under increasing criticism and scrutiny, however, and word has come out today that things may be getting worse. According to Darren Rovell and Justine Gubar of ESPN.com, the NCAA is investigating whether the Texas A&M quarterback received cash for signing “hundreds of autographs on photos and sports memorabilia.”
According to the report, Manziel agreed to sign the items for a “five-figure flat fee” while in Miami for the BCS National Championship game. Three sources told ESPN.com that Manziel signed the items in the presence of “many people” at the residence of an autograph broker named Drew Tieman.
If the report turns out to be true, the NCAA could declare Manziel ineligible to play this coming season. It has become increasingly clear that Manziel wants out of College Station as soon as possible but we doubt this is the way he wanted to go.
