  • 53-man roster is in

Eagles have made their cuts, and got to their (initial) 53-man roster:

    QB – 3 – Foles, Sanchez, Barkley

    RB – 3 – McCoy, Sproles, Polk

WR – 6 – Maclin, Cooper, Matthews, Smith, Huff, Maehl

TE – 4 – Celek, Ertz, Casey, Burton

OL – 9 – Peters, Mathis, Kelce, Herremans, Barbre, Tobin, Molk, Gardner, Kelly

DL – 7 – Thornton, Logan, Cox, Curry, Bair, Allen, Hart

OLB – 5 – Barwin, Cole, Smith, Graham, Braman

ILB – 4 – Ryans, Kendricks, Goode, Matthews

    S – 4 – Jenkins, Allen, Wolff, Maragos

CB – 5 – Williams, Fletcher, Boykin, Carroll, Watkins

    STs – Jones, Parkey, Dorenbos

They went light at RB. Polk must be ready to play. Parkey beats out Henery. Tobin apparently got injured vs the Jets a bit, so perhaps Dennis Kelly is insurance there -- he's probably gone when Johnson returns, if not sooner.

If Benn is on the designated-to-return IR, maybe he replaces Maehl eventually. Not sure the Eagles have to name that player yet.

This is just the initial 53... it can and probably will change before the first game. Do they really like Parkey, or will they look for another kicker? Will they look for a better ILB than Matthews (seems like they were prepared to cut him until Long's injury, so very possible there). Will they look to trade Barkley and pick up another QB (if not why were they working out Buffalo's cut QB recently)? Will there be other cuts they like (Jets cut the 6-4 WR Stephen Hill)?

No real surprises other than both Tucker and Josey going, maybe Reynolds because they were drafted. I guess the biggest stories are Bair and Allen that were long shots going into camp.

Hopefully Benn replaces Maehl after the IR stint.

I also hope that Tucker and/or Josey don't come back to haunt us in the NFC East

I doubt it. They should be safe on the PS. I would think Andrews could be claimed though

Benn CAN'T replace Maehl after the IR stint. Per "Short Term IR" rules, Benn MUST be released after he becomes healthy, and CANNOT sign with the Eagles after he's released.

Who's the return guys in this team? I'm betting this won't be the final 53-man roster.

Huff and Nolan Carroll are both return guys and all yeah there is this guy named Sproles who has made a pretty damn good loving returning kicks and punts.

My only surprise was a hurt Polk made the team over a healthy Josey

Our wrs took a beating last year and this preseason. With the increased passing and blocking expectations I think that you need at least 6 on your roster these days. And if these bastard owners really did give a damn about their players they would be talking about expanding their rosters instead of the season!

Right now we are going into the season opener with 2 healthy rbs. That's ridiculous.

Burton was a surprise to me as was going with a rookie unproven kicker and only 3 RB. I think multiple changes are coming if they can find anything on the wire or make trades + nailing down the PS guys

Cutting Josey disappointed me. Then cutting tucker really surprised me! They CAN'T go into the season with only these 3 RBs.

I don't understand your thinking VF on Henry. The only things he has "proven" over the past year is that he has a weak leg and has no confidence and is on the decline. What's the gamble?
