Restaurant owner says LeSean McCoy was 'verbally abusive to our staff' before leaving 20-cent tip

    Bill Streicher/USA TODAY Sports

Philadelphia Eagles running back LeSean McCoy ate at PYT burger restaurant this weekend, and the restaurant caused a stir after posting McCoy’s receipt on its Facebook page. The receipt showed that McCoy tipped just 20 cents on a $61.56 tab, which PYT says is a “new record.” When asked about the tip on Monday, McCoy had a short message for reporters.

Popular opinion on the tip seems to be split. Some believe McCoy’s tip may have been due to poor service, and some believe McCoy might just be a bad tipper. McCoy didn’t explain his side of the story, but PYT owner Tommy Up addressed the situation in a lengthy Facebook post. According to Up, McCoy was “verbally abusive to our staff in the most insulting ways.”

    Via Facebook:

Mr McCoy and his three companions came into my place on Monday afternoon, and immediately the whole staff was excited. Mr McCoy is a skilled athlete and is one of our beloved Philadelphia Eagles. A true Philly legend and a sports hero. Understandably my staff was really pumped, especially on the heels of they terrific win the day before. (Go Eagles!).

Mr McCoy and his friend sat inside at a booth next to my management and next to me. They were given excellent service. Impeccable service. If anything, our server was a little nervous as was our food runner, because they are big, big fans.

He and his group, from the moment they sat down, were verbally abusive to our staff in the most insulting ways. The derogatory statements about women and their sheer contempt for the staff serving them wasn’t the end, however. After Mr McCoy and his group left I looked over and saw their server, my friend, with his head bowed down and with a very confused look on his face. I took the receipt out of his hand and I couldn’t believe that anyone could be so callous. Mr McCoy had left a .03% tip for our staff. Our staff that was beyond excited to see him walk into our burger joint and was excited to serve him. That’s twenty cents on a tab of over $60. Twenty cents that our server has to split with the food runner and the bartender. Two dimes from an insulting multimillionaire
    "Hey Giants, who's your Daddy?"

there's three sides to every story.

But the fact is that he tipped 20 cents. Even if he was justified, you're a public figure, you have to know better than that. Swallow your pride, tip 10% and write a note that says "I thought service was subpar."

Wait until next year is a terrible philosophy

not unless he's so stupid he thinks the decimal place goes before the amount.

              Agreed.

Maybe he was trying to be funny or his posse thought it was funny. I'm going to chalk this one up to immaturity. His twitter posts and his smack talking with the Giants is beyond annoying.

He's just another example of why these athletes need to be held more accountable for their studies- they're too dumb to be left on their own.

Who's story would you believe? Does anybody think that McCoy would get bad service in a Philly restaurant? Maybe the same people who believe Goodell.

Something pissed him off warranted or not. Maybe the food sucked, maybe the orders were all messed up. Tips are not mandatory. I certainly understand that they are mostly how a waiter is compensated and they are given in almost every instance. McCoy paid the bill (didn't walk out on it).

There has always bit a bit of an undercurrent with McCoy that he is a bit of a dick. But come on, I really don't see this as much of an big deal. A 15% tip would be a little more than $9. Its not like it was a $3000 bill and no tip.

I do think the restaurant is showing themselves to be guilty of douchebaggery by going public. This is $9. Am I alone here thinking this way?

No, you're not. But that's the price of being a public figure. Perhaps he doesn't care too much about his image with this sort of stuff.

As for his jawing with the Giants.....I kinda like that. Just back it up on Sunday.

I'd rather him just do all his talking on Sunday and nothing during the week.

                        Shady speaks...

“The 20-cent tip was more just kind of a statement. You can’t just disrespect somebody and [expect] them to tip you. I don’t care who the person is. That’s why I left my card, so they could see my name. Simple as that," said McCoy.

Charlie Sheen has offered to pay the waiter that received the bad tip $1,000. Asked about that, McCoy jabbed, “That’s cool. I'm happy he's finally doing something positive.”

The owner shouldn't have went public with this IMO. Lesean and his boys were supposedly acting up... But that doesn't mean you call him out over social media.
You know Darren if you'd have told me 10 years ago that someday I was going to solve the world's energy problems I'd have said your crazy.... now lets drop this big ball of oil out the window.
