While everyone is writing him off I'm not so sure. I know that his contract was written to be able to cut him but he was a good deep threat for us this season. Those drops hurt though but he came up big in the SB when we went to him and had a great catch on a 3rd down play on a pass thrown behind him for a big first down that sticks in my head. Hollins didn't get very many targets and played more than realized this season. After a promising start to the season he didn't do a heck of a lot receiving wise but is an excellent blocker. I think that counting on him to start is iffy. As B. Gowton mentioned in an article today don't be shocked if the Birds keep Smith.

Smith did ok, but I can't forget the times when a ball is on the ground or there's a guy coming up and making a key tackle and there stands Smith not doing shit . It just bugs me, not to mention drops that looked like pure and simple lack of concentration . I'm gonna say that his position on the roster will depend on the draft and the teams ability to cut costs, he is an easy drop in my mind just because he is replaceable.
We're looking for people that are fundamentally different,” vice president of player personnel Andy Weidl said Saturday night. “The love and passion for football, it's non-negotiable. They're caring, their character, they do the right thing persistently, and they have a relentless playing style that you can see on tape. The motor, it burns hot. You see them finishing plays. They have a team-first mentality. They're selfless individuals.

I don't think it's so easy to replace that speed though. Plus he's a classy kid and the Eagles like him. Gibson has to show something this summer or he's gone IMO.

may be as simple as the money when the decision is made

I think they signed Smith before they thought they could get Jeffery. At this point they could go for another reclamation project instead of Smith for half the price. I see a Marlin type thing for $2-3m.

That part is certainly true too fly but he does open things up. Maybe they can renegotiate with him? I just don't think that it's etched in stone that he's a goner, that's all.

Smith isn't anything special. They have to have someone that can get down the field in order to keep the D honest but it would be nice of that someone caught the ball. Good guy and nice player that certainly seems to be a good locker room guy but he needs to come cheap for what he gives. Much like Celek he would be nice to have but he has to take what is left in the budget rather than be part of the budget
Wait until next year is a terrible philosophy
                Hope is not a strategy

I don't know ND, it's tough to replace that kind of speed. He's open underneath quite a bit because of it. I think that they might try to redo his contract. He'll most likely be in camp because it won't cost anything to cut him. I read that they have to be under the cap by the start of the new year (March 14 or 16)? We should hear about some moves this week.

I thought Smith earned a pink slip this season but when the playoffs came he made some critical plays for us. If Agholor taught us anything its that players who under perform certainly can fix the problem if they are willing to work hard. I might give him another shot since he’s cheap, but I wouldn’t be surprsed if they part ways eithor.

$5 million is not that much for a decently productive veteran receiver. Teams do fear his deep ability and need to game plan for him.

I think if we weren't up against the cap, we might just keep him -- his production probably was about that salary. But Eagles have to get under before March 14, and need to do it with cuts or restructures alone.

Maybe we cut Curry and Celek and get by that way, and at least give some time to figure things out with Smith. After March 14, trades could clear more space, but we will need further space to sign draft picks even once we get under the cap.
